1811 वेनेजुएला को स्पेन से स्वतंत्रता मिली।

1841 थॉमस कुक ने इंग्लैंड में पहली रेलवे सेवा प्रारंभ की।

1848 हंगरी के राष्ट्रीय क्रांतिकारी संसद ने काम शुरू किया।

1865 रॉयल असेंट संसद के एक अधिनियम के तहत दिया गया कि टायलिन रेलवे को यात्रियों को स्टीम हॉलेज द्वारा ले जाने की इजाजत है - जो ब्रिटेन की पहली गेज रेलवे है।

1935 फ्रैंकलिन डी. रूजवेल्ट ने अमेरिका के नेशनल लेबर रिलेशंस कानून पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1945 लेबर पार्टी ने ब्रिटेन के संसदीय चुनावों में विजय हासिल की।

1946 लोक जनशक्ति पार्टी के अध्यक्ष व जाने माने भारतीय दलित राजनेता रामविलास पासवान का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन विख्यात प्राध्यापक और कथाकार असगर वजाहत का जन्म हुआ। पेरिस के फैशन डिजाइनर लुई रियर्ड द्वारा बिकनी के आविष्कार की वर्षगांठ पर 1946 में फ्रांस सरकार ने 5 जुलाई को राष्ट्रीय बिकिनी दिवस मनाने की घोषणा की थी। तब से यह दिवस फ्रांस और अन्य देशों के लोगों को पेरिस के फैशन के प्रति जागरूकता और उत्सुकता पैदा करता रहा है। 

1947 भारतीय स्वतंत्रता अधिनियम ब्रिटिश संसद में प्रस्तुत किया गया जिसे बाद में ब्रिटिश राजशाही की स्वीकृति मिल गई।

1950 नए कानून के तहत सभी यहूदियों को इस्राइल में रहने की अनुमति दी गई।

1952 गोविंद निहलानी, विधु विनोद चोपड़ा, सुधीर मिश्रा, शेखर कपूर, महेश भट्ट, विजय सिंह जैसे तमाम विख्यात फिल्मकारों की फिल्मों का संपादन करने वाली रेणु सलूजा का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1954 ब्रिटिश ब्राडकास्टिंग कारपोरेशन यानी बीबीसी ने पहला टेलीविजन प्रसारण किया। 20 मिनट का प्रोग्राम पहले से बनाकर तैयार किया गया था। इसी दिन आंध्र प्रदेश हाईकोर्ट की स्थापना हुई। इसी दिन आंध्र प्रदेश उच्च न्यायालय की स्थापना हुई। यह मुसी नदी के दक्षिणी तट पर बनी एक बेहतरीन इमारत है। इसे हैदराबाद के निजाम सातवें मीर उस्मान अली खान ने सराकेनिक शैली में लाल और सफेद पत्थरों से बनवाया था।

1956 समकालीन कवि एवं लेखक ज्योति खरे का जन्म जन्म लिया

1957 जाने माने भारतीय स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, शिक्षक, वकील, राजनीतिज्ञ तथा आधुनिक बिहार के निर्माता अनुग्रह नारायण सिन्हा का निधन हुआ।

1960 बड़े अमीर, भारत के वारेन बफेट और भारतीय शेयर बाजार के बिग बुल कहे गये मशहूर शेयर कारोबारी, रेयर इंटरप्राइजेज कंपनी के मालिक राकेश झुनझुनवाला का जन्म हैदराबाद में हुआ।

1962 अल्जीरिया के ओरान में हुए नरसंहार में 96 लोगों की मौत हुई। अल्जीरिया फ्रांस से स्वतंत्र हो गया। अल्जीरिया भूमध्य सागर के तट पर उत्तरी अफ्रीका का एक देश है। इसकी राजधानी और सबसे बसा हुआ शहर अल्जीयर्स है। 2,381,741 वर्ग के क्षेत्रफल के साथ, 90 प्रतिशत रेगिस्तान है, अल्जीरिया दुनिया का दसवां सबसे बड़ा देश है और अरब और अफ्रीका में सबसे बड़ा है।

1968 भारत में पहली पनडुब्बी सोवियत रूस से पहुंची।

1973 बाॅलीवुड की मशहूर कोरियोग्राफर फराह खान की शिष्या जानी मानी टेलीविजन एवं फिल्म कोरियोग्राफर, अभिनेत्री, शो प्रस्तोता एवं इंडियाज बेस्ट डांसर प्रतियोगिता की जज गीता कपूर का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1975 31वर्षीय अमरीकी टेनिस खिलाड़ी आर्थर ऐश विंबलडन की एकल प्रतियोगिता जीतने वाले पहले काले व्यक्ति बने। इसी दिन 1975 में केप वर्डे ने पुर्तगाल से अपनी स्वतंत्रता प्राप्त की। यह एक द्वीप देश है यह पश्चिमी अफ्रीका के तट से 570 किलोमीटर दूर स्थित है और द्वीप समूह चार हजार किलोमीटर से थोड़ा अधिक के संयुक्त क्षेत्र को कवर करता है।

1976 प्रसिद्ध तमिल फिल्म अभिनेता, निर्माता-निर्देशक मधु वारियर का जन्म नागरकोइल में हुआ।

1977 जनरल जिया उल हक के नेतृत्व में पाकिस्तानी सेना ने देश की सत्ता पर कब्जा जमाया। प्रधानमंत्री जुल्फिकार अली भुट्टो को सत्ताच्युत कर गिरफ्तार किया। अप्रैल 1979 में भुट्टो को फांसी दे दी गई।

1980 मुमताज के नाम से सुपरिचित हिंदी, कन्नड़, तमिल एवं मलयालम सिनेमा की खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल नग्मा खान का जन्म बंबई में हुआ। इसी दिन स्वीडन के विख्यात टेनिस खिलाड़ी ब्योर्न बोर्ग ने अपना पांचवां विंबलडन फाइनल जीता। इसी दिन बाॅलीवुड के मशहूर अभिनेता संजय खान के बेटे जाने माने अभिनेता एवं माॅडल जायेद खान का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1981 राजन महादेवन ने गणित के पाई के 31 हजार 811 अंकों की गणना कर विश्व रिकार्ड बनाया।

1987 श्रीलंका की सेना के खिलाफ तमिलों के अधिकारों के लिए संघर्षरत द ब्लैक टाइगर्स ऑफ लिबरेशन टाइगर्स ऑफ तमिल इलम ने नेल्लीडीह में पहली आत्मघाती बमबारी की।

1994 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड भारतीय टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री और माॅडल श्रुति शर्मा का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन इस्रायल अधिकृत जेरिको में फिलिस्तीनी स्वशासन की औपचारिक शुरुआत हुई।

1995 भारत की प्रसिद्ध बैडमिंटन खिलाड़ी पी. वी. सिंधु का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन आर्मेनिया गणराज्य ने सोवियत संघ से अपनी स्वतंत्रता के चार साल बाद अपना संविधान अपनाया। इसी दिन आर्मेनिया यूरेशिया में दक्षिण काकेशस क्षेत्र में एक पहाड़ी देश है। यह पश्चिमी एशिया में स्थित है।

1996 एक वयस्क कोशिका से क्लोन किया गया पहला स्तनपायी डॉली भेड़। डॉली एक महिला घरेलू भेड़ थी और एक वयस्क दैहिक कोशिका से क्लोन किया जाने वाला पहला जानवर था। यह परमाणु हस्तांतरण की प्रक्रिया का उपयोग करके किया गया था। वह कीथ कैंपबेल, इयान विल्मुट और सहयोगियों द्वारा विकसित किया गया।

1998 विख्यात टेनिस खिलाड़ी पीट संप्रास ने पांचवीं बार विम्बलडन का एकल खिताब जीता।

1998 टैंक विरोधी मिसाइल नाग का सफल परीक्षण किया गया। इसी दिन 1998 में तमिलनाडु में डॉल्फिन सिटी का उद्घाटन हुआ।

2004 यूनान ने यूरो कप फुटबाल प्रतियोगिता जीतकर इतिहास बनाया। इसी दिन इंडोनेशिया में पहला राष्ट्रपति चुनाव आयोजित हुआ।

2007 मैक्सिको के दक्षिणी प्रांत ट्यूबला में हुए भू-स्खलन से 60 लोगों की मृत्यु। इसी दिन ईरान ने अपने विवादास्पद परमाणु मुद्दे को सुलझाने की दिशा में महत्त्वपूर्ण कदम बढ़ाते हुए अंतर्राष्ट्रीय परमाणु ऊर्जा एजेंसी के अधिकारियों को वार्ता के लिए आमंत्रित किया।

2008 नेपाल की अंतरिम कैबिनेट ने संविधान संशोधन के लिए विधेयक लाने का प्रस्ताव पारित किया।

2013 इराक की राजधानी बगदाद के एक मस्जिद पर हुये बम हमले में 15 लोगों की मौत।

2015 7वीं महिला फुटबॉल विश्व कप के मैच में वैंकूवर में संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका ने जापान को 5-2 से हराया।

2016 नासा का अंतरिक्षयान जूनो बृहस्पति ग्रह की कक्षा में पहुँचा।
