1201 एक बीजेंटाइन कुलीन ने अपने वफादारों और सैनिकों के साथ एक आक्रामक कार्रवाई कर कोस्तांतीनोपल की सत्ता पर कब्जा कर दिया। राजा अलेक्सियोस को पदच्युत कर दिया। यह स्थिति कुछ ही समय रही। अलेक्सियोस के वफादारों और सैनिकों ने जल्द ही कुलीन को सत्ता छोड़ने पर मजबूर कर दिया। बीजेंटाइन आज का तुर्की है और वर्तमान में इस्तांबूल है।

1498 इतालवी नागरिक और खोजी, नाविक क्रिस्टोफर कोलंबस अपनी तीसरी यात्रा के दौरान 1498 में त्रिनिदाद द्वीप पर पहुंचे। त्रिनिदाद एवं टोबेगो दक्षिण कैरेबियन देश है। कोलंबस की नई दुनिया की खोजों से यूरोप बहुत समृद्ध हुआ लेकिन करोड़ों मूल निवासियों का संहार किया गया। और उनका जमकर शारीरिक, मानसिक शोषण किया गया।

1658 अपने भाइयों को ठिकाने लगाकर और पिता शाहजहां को कैद कर मुहिउद्दीन मोहम्मद औरंगजेब मुगल साम्राज्य का सुल्तान बना। वह अगले 49 साल तक बादशाह रहा। उसने अकबर के बाद सबसे ज्यादा लंबे समय तक शासन किया। और अपने राज्य का बड़ा विस्तार किया। अशोक के बाद औरंगजेब ही सबसे बड़ा राज्य स्थापित करने वाला शासक हुआ।

1788 अमेरिकन संविधान की पुष्टि करने वाला मैरीलैंड सातवां राज्य बना।

1848 फ्रांस ने अपने उपनिवेशों से आखिरी गुलामों को भी मुक्त किया।

1855 बोस्टन में अमेरिका के पहले पशु चिकित्सा कॉलेज की स्थापना की गई।

1865 ऑस्ट्रेलिया में दक्षिण पूर्व क्वींस्लैंड ग्रैडचेस्टर शहर में विश्व की पहली छोटी रेल लाइन शुरू हुई।

1880 प्रेमचंद के नाम से विख्यात कहानीकार और उपन्यासकार, चिंतक, समाज सचेतक, मार्गदर्शक, संगठनकर्ता और पत्रकार धनपत राय श्रीवास्तव का जन्म लमही, वाराणसी में हुआ।

1902 शंकर के नाम से सुपरिचित प्रसिद्ध भारतीय अंग्रेजी कार्टूनिस्ट, कार्टून पत्रिका शंकर्स वीकली के संपादक-प्रकाशक के. शंकर पिल्लई का जन्म कायमकुलम, केरल में हुआ।

1907 विख्यात भारतीय भाषा-वैज्ञानिक, इतिहासकार और गणितज्ञ, चिंतक, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता दामोदर धर्मानंद कोसांबी का जन्म गोवा में हुआ।

1910 इंग्लैंड के क्लाउड ग्राहमे व्हाइट ने पहली बार विमान को रात में उड़ाया।

1912 ब्रिटिश अधिकारी, सामाजिक - राजनीतिक कार्यकर्ता और भारत में कांग्रेस पार्टी के संस्थापकों में से प्रमुख ए. ओ. ह्यूम यानी एलेन ओक्टेवियन ह्यूम का देहांत लंदन में हुआ।

1916 प्रसिद्ध राजनीतिज्ञ तथा राजस्थान के मुख्यमंत्री हुए मोहन लाल सुखाड़िया का जन्म हुआ।

1919 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय क्रिकेटर कर्नल हेमचंद्र रामचंद्र अधिकारी यानी हेमू अधिकारी का जन्म हुआ।

1922 विख्यात अमेरिकी लेखक बिल केसिंग का जन्म हुआ।

1924 मद्रास प्रेसीडेंसी क्लब ने रेडियो प्रसारण संचालित करने का प्रयास प्रारंभ किया।

1933 राष्ट्रपिता महात्मा गांधी ने 31 जुलाई को हमेशा के लिए गुजरात का अपना साबरमती आश्रम छोड़ा।

1934 तमिल नाडु के राज्यपाल रहे पूर्व भारतीय प्रशासनिक अधिकारी और आंध्र प्रदेश के पुलिस महानिदेशक रहे पीएस राममोहन राव का जन्म हुआ।

1935 भारत के जाने माने शिक्षाविद और सिंबियोसिस यूनिवर्सिटी के संस्थापक और कुलपति, पद्म भूषण सम्मान प्राप्त शांताराम बलवंत मजूमदार का जन्म हुआ। 

1937 पहला एनिमेटड कार्टून इलेक्ट्रिक साइन बोर्ड न्यूयॉर्क में लगाया गया।

1940 ब्रिटिश सरकार ने उग्र क्रांतिकारी, स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, जलियांवाला बाग नरसंहार 13 अप्रैल 1919 का बदला लेने वाले और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता उधम सिंह को लंदन में फांसी दी। इसी दिन 1941 में एडोल्फ हिटलर सरकार ने एसएस जनरल रेनहार्ड हैडरिक को यहूदी प्रश्न के अंतिम समाधान का आदेश दिया। यानी यहूदियों का समूल नाश।

1941 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता आशुतोष दास का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन गुजरात के आठवें मुख्यमंत्री अमरसिंह चौधरी का जन्म हुआ। 

1942 एटलस ज्वैलरी समूह के मालिक कारोबारी, फिल्म निर्माता और अभिनेता एटलस रामचंद्रन का जन्म हुआ।

1946 जाने माने जादूगर पीसी सरकार जूनियर का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1947 मुमताज के नाम से सुपरिचित, लोकप्रिय लोकप्रिय बहुप्रतिभावान, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड बॉलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल अश्करी माधवानी (माता- पिता शादी हबीब आगा, अब्दुल सलीम अस्करी) का जन्म हुआ। 1960 और 1970 की बेहद सफलतम फिल्मों में उन्होंने शानदार अभिनय किया।

1948 भारत में सबसे पहली राज्य परिवहन सेवा पश्चिम बंगाल में (कलकत्ता) राज्य परिवहन निगम की स्थापनां की गई।

1950 भारत और नेपाल ने शांति और मित्रता संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1954 अर्दितो डेसियो के नेतृत्व में इतालवी पर्वतारोहियों का एक दल दुनिया के दूसरे सबसे ऊंचे पर्वतीय स्थान के2 के शिखर पर पहली बार पहुंचा।

1965 जोआन राउलिंग का याट, इंग्लैंड में जन्म हुआ। वे जे.के. राउलिंग के नाम से सुविख्यात हैं। विश्व की सर्वाधिक पढ़ी जाने वाली, विश्व चर्चित ब्रिटिश लेखिका और परोपकारी हैं। उन्होंने 1997 से 2007 तक प्रकाशित सात खंडों वाली बच्चों की फंतासी श्रृंखला हैरी पॉटर लिखी। जिसके दुनिया भर में अनुवाद हुए, फिल्में और वेबसीरीज भी बनीं।

1968 बीसवीं शताब्दी के भारतीय सांस्कृतिक उन्नयनायकों में से एक विद्वान श्रीपाद दामोदर सातवलेकर का निधन हुआ।

1980 शहंशाह-ए-तरन्नुम कहे गये शीर्ष और महान पार्श्र्व गायक मोहम्मद रफी का दिल का दौरा पड़ने से बंबई में निधन हुआ। उनका जन्म 24 दिसंबर 1924 को अमृतसर पंजाब के कोटला सुल्तान सिंह में हुआ था। 

1982 भारतीय फुटबाॅलर अराता इजुमी का जन्म जापान में हुआ।

1991 अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति जॉर्ज हर्बर्ट वाॅकर बुश और सोवियत राष्ट्रपति मिखाइल गोर्बाचेव ने सामरिक शस्त्र कटौती संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1992 विख्यात भारतीय सितार वादक पंडित रविशंकर रैमन मैग्सेसे पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किए गये।

1992 आज के दौर की चर्चित हिंदी और तेलुगू फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल कियारा आडवाणी का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ। इसी दिन नेपाल की राजधानी काठमांडू में थाईलैंड का विमान दुर्घटनाग्रस्त होने से 113 लोगों की जानें गईं।

1993 भारत के पहले तैरते हुए समुद्री संग्रहालय का कलकत्ता (अब कोलकाता) में उद्घाटन हुआ।

1995 भारत में मोबाइल फोन से पहली बार दो लोगों ने बात की थी। कोलकाता की रॉयटर बिल्डिंग से फोन कर पश्चिम बंगाल के मुख्यमंत्री ज्योति बसु ने केंद्रीय संचार मंत्री सुखराम से बात की।

1998 सार्क का दसवां शिखर सम्मेलन श्रीलंका की राजधानी कोलम्बो में सम्पन्न हुआ।

2000 लोकसभा ने छत्तीसगढ़ राज्य निर्माण विधेयक ध्वनिमत से पारित किया।

2003 इस्रायल और फिलिस्तीन के सुरक्षा मंत्रियों की बैठक येरूशलम में समाप्त हुई।

2004 आर्थिक सहयोग मंच बिम्सटेक का नाम बदलकर बंगतक्षेस किया गया।

2005 उजबेकिस्तान ने अमेरिका को अपने सैनिक अड्डे हटा लेने का आदेश दिया।

2006 लिबरेशन टाइगर्स आॅफ तमिल इलम श्रीलंका में युद्ध विराम समझौता समाप्त हुआ, एलटीटीई के साथ संघर्ष में 50 लोग मारे गये। इसी दिन 2006 में क्रांतिकारी और दुनिया के टाॅप शासकों में से एक क्यूबा के फिदेल कास्त्रो ने अपने भाई राउल कास्त्रो को सत्ता सौंपी।

2007 भारतीय मूल के अमेरिकी डॉक्टर सुधीर पारिख को पाल हैरिस अवार्ड प्रदान किया गया। 2007 वन रेंजर वह व्यक्ति होता है जिसे पार्कलैंड और प्राकृतिक संरक्षित क्षेत्रों के संरक्षण और सुरक्षा का काम सौंपा जाता है। 1992 में 31 जुलाई को इंटरनेशनल रेंजर फेडरेशन आईआरएफ की स्थापना हुई थी। विश्व रेंजर दिवस अंतर्राष्ट्रीय रेंजर महासंघ ने शुरु किया और पहली बार 2007 में रेंजर से जुड़े महत्वपूर्ण आयोजन किए गये।

2008 थाइलैंड की एक अदालत ने देश के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री थॉक्सिन शिनावात्रा की पत्नि को कर चोरी के मामले में दोषी पाये जाने पर तीन वर्ष कैद की सजा सुनाई।

2009 पाकिस्तान के सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने पूर्व राष्ट्रपति परवेज मुशर्रफ द्वारा लगाए गए आपातकाल को असंवैधानिक करार दिया।

2010 पाकिस्तानी अधिकारियों के अनुसार एक सप्ताह में बाढ़ से 800 से अधिक लोगों की मौत हुई। इसी दिन मध्य रूस के नीज्नी नोवगोरोद, वोरोनेज, मास्को आदि इलाकों में लगी आग के कारण 29 लोगों की मृत्यु के बाद राष्ट्रपति दिमित्री मेदवेदेय ने दस हजार शमनकर्मीयों सहित सेना को आग बुझाने, बचाव और राहत कार्यों में लगाया। 2010 में इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध भारतीय बिलियर्ड प्रशिक्षक सुभाष अग्रवाल को द्रोणाचार्य पुरस्कार के लिए चुना गया। इसी दिन ब्राजीलिया में हो रहे 34वें अंतरराष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन में विश्व धरोहर समिति ने जयपुर के 18वीं सदी के जंतर-मंतर को 2010 में यूनेस्को की विश्व धरोहर सूची में शामिल किया। इसी दिन ब्रिटेन के साउथेम्पटन शहर समिति ने 2010 में अपनी महिला कर्मचारियों को मिनी स्कर्ट पहन कर काम पर नहीं आने के निर्देश दिए।

2012 प्रो. अशोक सेन को पहले यूरी मिलनर फंडामेंटल फिजिक्स प्राइज (मौलिक भौतिकी पुरस्कार) के नौ विजेताओं में से एक विजेता घोषित किया।

2014 विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन के अनुसार पश्चिम अफ्रीका में इबोला से 57 से अधिक लोगों की मौत हुई।

1201 A Byzantine noble with his loyalists and troops seizes power in Constantinople in an offensive. King Alexios was deposed. This situation remained for some time. Alexios' loyalists and soldiers soon forced the patrician to abdicate. Byzantine is today's Türkiye and is present day Istanbul.

He ruled for the longest time after Akbar. And expanded his kingdom a lot. After Ashoka, Aurangzeb became the ruler who established the largest state.

1788 Maryland becomes the seventh state to ratify the US Constitution.

1848 France also freed the last slaves from its colonies.

1855 America's first veterinary college was established in Boston.

1865 The world's first narrow gauge railway line opened in the city of Grandchester in South East Queensland, Australia.

1880 Dhanpat Rai Srivastava, famous story writer and novelist, thinker, social alert, guide, organizer and journalist Premchand, was born in Lamhi, Varanasi.

1912 British officer, socio-political activist and one of the founders of the Congress Party in India, A.R. O. Hume i.e. Allen Octavian Hume died in London.

1934 PS Rammohan Rao, former Indian Administrative Officer, Governor of Tamil Nadu and Director General of Police, Andhra Pradesh, was born.

1935 Shantaram Balwant Majumdar, Padma Bhushan awardee, founder and vice-chancellor of Symbiosis University, India's renowned educationist, was born.

1937 First animated cartoon electric sign board installed in New York.

1940 The British government hanged Udham Singh, a fierce revolutionary, freedom fighter, avenger of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre on 13 April 1919, and social worker in London. On this day in 1941, the Adolf Hitler government ordered SS General Reinhard Heydrich to come up with the final solution to the Jewish question. That is, the complete destruction of the Jews.

1941 Ashutosh Das, freedom fighter and social worker, passed away. On this day the eighth Chief Minister of Gujarat, Amarsinh Chowdhary was born.

1942 Atlas Ramachandran, businessman, film producer and actor, owner of the Atlas Jewelery Group, was born.

He wrote the seven-volume children's fantasy series Harry Potter, published from 1997 to 2007. Which got translated worldwide, films and webseries were also made.

1968 Scholar Shripad Damodar Satavlekar, one of the Indian cultural pioneers of the 20th century, passed away.

1980 Top and legendary playback singer Mohammed Rafi, known as Shahenshah-e-Tarannum, died in Bombay due to a heart attack. He was born on 24 December 1924 in Kotla Sultan Singh, Amritsar Punjab.

1982 Arata Izumi, Indian footballer, was born in Japan.

1991 US President George Herbert Walker Bush and Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev sign the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.
