1701 फ्रांसीसी खोजी एंटोनी डी ला मोटे कैडिलैक ने फोर्ट पोंकार्ट्रेन डु ड्यूट्रोइट की स्थापना की, जिसे आज हम अमेरिका के प्रमुख शहर डेट्रायट के रूप में जानते हैं।

1715 जनरल डॉन जुआन यूबीला के नेतृत्व में 10 जहाजों पर एक स्पेनिश खजाना स्पेन से हवाना, क्यूबा गया, सात दिनों बाद, उनमें से नौ फ्लोरिडा के तट पर एक तूफान में डूब गये और कुछ खजाना बाद में मिला।

1783 सिमोन बोलिवार या साइमन बोलिवार के नाम से विश्व चर्चित योद्धा, अच्छे शासक जोस एंटोनियो डे ला सैंटिसिमा त्रिनिदाद बोलिवार पलासियोस पोंटे वाई ब्लैंको का जन्म कराकास, वेनेजुएला में हुआ। सिमोन बोलिवार ने स्पेनिश साम्राज्य से स्वतंत्रता के लिए वर्तमान के कोलंबिया, वेनेजुएला, इक्वाडोर, पेरू, पनामा और बोलीविया देशों का नेतृत्व किया।

1789 अमेरिका के प्रथम राष्ट्रपति जॉर्ज वॉशिंगटन उत्तरी अमेरिका की पहली असेंबली वर्जीनिया हाउस ऑफ बर्जेसेज में शामिल हुए।

1793 फ्रांस ने कॉपीराइट कानून बनाया।

1802 विख्यात फ्रांसीसी लेखक एलेक्जेन्डर डयूमा का जन्म हुआ।

1830 चिली में सदियों से चली आ रही दास प्रथा समाप्त कर दी गई। दास प्रथा में गरीब लोग, महिलाएं व बच्चे खरीदे बेचे जाते थे और खरीददार उनका जमकर शोषण, उत्पीड़न करते थे।

1870 अमेरिका में पहली अंतरदेशीय रेल सेवा की शुरुआत हुई।

1890 सोवाबाजार (कलकत्ता) इंग्लिश फुटबॉल टीम ईस्ट सरे को हराने वाली पहली भारतीय टीम बनी।

1906 जॉर्ज वाशिंगटन नाम के एक बेल्जियम के व्यक्ति ने ग्वाटेमाला में इंस्टेंट (तत्काल) कॉफी तैयार कर प्रस्तुत की। इसके बाद दुनिया भर में इंस्टेंट काॅफी का चलन बढ़ा।

1911 अन्वेषक हैरम बेहन ने माया यानी इंका सभ्यता का विलुप्त शहर माचु पिच्चु खोजा। माचू पिच्चू दक्षिण अमेरिकी देश पेरू मे स्थित इंका सभ्यता से जुड़ा हुआ एक ऐतिहासिक स्थल है जो समुद्र तल से 2,430 मीटर की ऊँचाई पर उरुबाम्बा घाटी में एक पहाड़ी पर स्थित है। माचू पिच्चू को इंकाओं का खोया शहर के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। माचू पिच्चू इंका शासन के सबसे खास प्रतीकों में से एक है, जिसको 7 जुलाई 2007 दुनिया के 7 अजूबों में से एक घोषित किया था। माचू पिच्चू को 1983 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र की संस्था यूनेस्को द्वारा विश्व धरोहर स्थल की सूचि में भी शामिल किया गया है। यह दुनिया भर के पर्यटकों को आकर्षित करता है।

1910 ओटोमन सेना ने 1910 के ऑलबानियन विद्रोह को दबाते हुए शकोदर शहर पर कब्जा कर लिया।

1911 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय बाँसुरी वादक पन्नालाल घोष का जन्म हुआ।

1915 सेंट्रल शिकागो में एक स्टीमर ईस्टलैंड डूबने से 844 लोगों की जान गयी।

1923 स्विट्जरलैंड में यूनान (ग्रीस), बुल्गारिया और प्रथम विश्व युद्ध में शामिल अन्य देशों के बीच हुई संधि के द्वारा आधुनिक तुर्की की सीमाओं को व्यवस्थित किया गया।

1924 सुप्रसिद्द उर्दू शायर नाजिश प्रतापगढ़ी का जन्म हुआ।

1928 गुजरात के प्रमुख राजनेता और मुख्यमंत्री हुए केशुभाई पटेल का जन्म हुआ।

1932 रामकृष्ण मिशन सेवा प्रतिष्ठान की स्थापना की गई।

1935 ब्रिटेन में पहला बधाई टेलीग्राम भेजा गया। 1935 में इसी दिन बारहवीं लोकसभा के सदस्य रामपाल उपाध्याय का जन्म हुआ।

1937 हरियाली और रास्ता, वह कौन थी, क्रांति, रोटी कपड़ा और मकान, हिमालय की गोद में, दो बदन, उपकार, पूरब और पश्चिम, नील कमल, पत्थर के सनम, दस नंबरी और शोर जैसी तमाम लोकप्रिय देशभक्ति, प्रेम-रोमांस और तत्कालीन देश की दशा-दिशा को बयां करती फिल्मों से लाखों दिलों पर राज करने वाले हिंदी चलचित्र निर्माता, अभिनेता मनोज कुमार का जन्म हुआ। उन्हें भारत कुमार भी कहा गया।

1939 प्रसिद्ध असमिया सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता तरुण राम फुकन का निधन हुआ।

1941 उत्तर यूरोपीय देश लिथुनिया में सम्पूर्ण यहूदी आबादी की नाजियों ने हत्या की।

1943 भारतीय राजनेता और लोक सभा महासचिव हुए जी. सी. मल्होत्रा का जन्म हुआ।

1945 भारत के बंगलोर स्थित विप्रो कॉर्पोरेशन’के अध्यक्ष अजीम प्रेमजी का जन्म हुआ जो कम्प्यूटर सॉफ्टवेयर प्रोग्राम का विकास और उपभोक्ता वस्तुओं का उत्पादन करती है। प्रेमजी ऐशिया के सबसे ज्यादा सामाजिक कार्यों के लिए दान देने वाले व्यक्ति हैं। अजीम प्रेमजी फाउंडेशन शिक्षा व्यवस्था और वैज्ञानिक, तार्किक चेतना के प्रसार में संलग्न है।

1946 पहले समाजवादी, फिर जनता दल और कुछ महीने पहले तक भारतीय जनता पार्टी के राजनीतिज्ञ, जम्मू एवं कश्मीर के उप राज्यपाल तथा कई राज्यों के राज्यपाल रहे सत्यपाल मलिक का जन्म बागपत में हुआ।

1947 प्रसिद्ध पाकिस्तानी क्रिकेटर जहीर अब्बास का जन्म हुआ। जाॅर्डन के शाह हसन बिन तलाल की पत्नी हुईं राजकुमारी सरवथ अल हसन का जन्म कलकत्ता के एक मुस्लिम परिवार में इसी दिन हुआ।

1950 जाने माने बांग्ला फिल्म निर्देशक, निर्माता, संगीतकार, सिनेमाटोग्राफर, फिल्म जगत में शानदार योगदान के लिए इटली का सम्मान विटटोरियो डी सिक्का प्राप्त गौतम घोष का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1953 मलयालम सिनेमा की लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री श्रीविद्या का जन्म तिरुअनंतपुरम में हुआ। इन्होंने हिंदी सहित तमाम दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्मों में अभिनय किया।

1964 एशिया के बड़े मीडिया समूहों में शामिल सन नेटवर्क (जिसमें अखबार, पत्रिका, टीवी चैनल, एफएम रेडियो, क्रिकेट टीम सहित बहुत कुछ शामिल है) और एयरलाइन स्पाइसजेट के मालिक कलानिधि मारन का जन्म मद्रास (चेन्नई) में हुआ। कलानिधि पूर्व केंद्रीय मंत्री मुरासोली मारन के पुत्र हैं।

1967 कनाडा के मॉन्ट्रियल में एक भाषण के दौरान, फ्रांस के राष्ट्रपति चार्ल्स डी गॉल ने लॉन्ग लाइव फ्री क्यूबेक, शीर्षक एक बयान दिया जिसमें कनाडा से क्यूबेक स्वतंत्रता के लिए समर्थन किया।

1969 अपोलो-11 सफलता पूर्वक प्रशांत महासागर में उतर गया।

1971 हिंदी सहित कन्नड़, तमिल, तेलुगू, मलयालम आदि तमाम भारतीय भाषाओं की करीब 600 फिल्मों में काम कर चुकी अभिनेत्री, टेलीविजन कलाकार तथा फिल्म और टीवी शो निर्मात्री चित्रा शेनाॅय का जन्म हासन में हुआ।

1974 नेताओं की जासूसी के कारण अमेरिका में वबाल हुआ और अमेरिकी सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने देश के तत्कालीन राष्ट्रपति निक्सन को वाटरगेट मामले के सभी टेप जांच एजेंसियों को देने का आदेश दिया।

1976 केटीआर के नाम से मशहूर तेलंगाना के राजनेता और मंत्री कल्वाकुंतला तारक रामा राव का जन्म सिद्दीपेठ में हुआ।

1977 चार दिवसीय लिबिया-मिस्र युद्ध हुआ।

1980 प्रख्यात अमेरिकी हास्य अभिनेता (पींक पैंथर) रिचर्ड हेनरी सेलस का निधन हुआ। 1980 में इसी दिन हिंदी और बांग्ला फिल्मों के प्रसिद्ध अभिनेता उत्तम कुमार का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन मेघालय की कांग्रेस नेत्री, केंद्र में मंत्री रहीं और लोकसभा सदस्य अगाथा संगमा का जन्म हुआ।

1982 जापान के नागासाकी में भारी बारिश से पुल ढहने से 299 लोगों की मौत हुई।

1985 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय बिलियर्ड्स और स्नूकर खिलाड़ी, अर्जुन अवार्ड, पद्मश्री एवं पद्मभूषण सम्मान प्राप्त करने ाले पंकज आडवाणी का जन्म पुणे में हुआ।

1985 प्रधानमंत्री राजीव गांधी और खालिस्तान आंदोलन की ओर से संत हरचंद सिंह लोंगोवाल के बीच एक ऐतिहासिक समझौता हुआ। 80 के दशक से पंजाब में हिंसा, गोली-बारी, बम विस्फोट और उथल-पुथल भरा माहौल था। कट्टरपंथी सिखों द्वारा खालिस्तान की मांग जोर पकड़ती जा रही थी। भारत से अलग सिखों का देश खालिस्तान की मांग को लेकर आंदोलन चला रहे थे। इस दौर में ट्रांजिस्टर बम और कई अन्य रूपों में बम विस्फोट किये जाते। खालिस्तानियों ने अपनी हिंसक कार्रवाई के जरिये हजारों लोगों की जान ले ली। उनकी मांग पंजाब से लेकर उत्तर प्रदेश के लखीमपुर खीरी तक अलग देने बनाने की थी। 1984 में तत्कालीन प्रधानमंत्री इंदिरा गांधी ने ऑपरेशन ब्लू स्टार के तहत स्वर्ण मंदिर में सेना भेजी जिसमें खालिस्तान आंदोलन का मुखिया जरनैल सिंह भिंडरावाले और उसके अनेक साथी मारे गये। इससे सिखों में इंदिरा गांधी के प्रति गुस्सा भर गया। खालिस्तानियों की पहुंच तब प्रधानमंत्री निवास तक हो गयी और 1984 की 31 अक्टूबर को श्रीमती गांधी के 3 सिख अंगरक्षकों ने 28 गोलियां मारकर हत्या कर दी। इसके बाद देश भर में सिख विरोधी दंगे हुए, जिनमें कई बेगुनाह सिखों को मार दिया गया। ससे निपटने के लिए राजीव गांधी ने हरचंद सिंह लोंगोवाल से 24 जुलाई 1985 को एक समझौता किया था। इसे पंजाब समझौता भी कहा जाता है। इस समझौते में मारे गए निरपराध लोगों के लिए मुआवजा, सीमा विवाद, दंगों की जांच, लंबित मुकदमों का फैसला और सेना में भर्ती जैसी कई बातें शामिल थीं।

1989 भारत में लोकसभा में 73 विपक्षी सदस्यों ने बोफर्स तोप खरीद में कथित रिश्वतखोरी के आरोपों के मुद्दे पर सदन से इस्तीफा दे दिया और जिसे स्वीकार कर लिया गया।

1991 कांग्रेस की पीपी नरसिंहाराव वाली सरकार में वित्त मंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने 24 जुलाई 1991 को संसद में बजट पेश किया जिसके जरिये भारत के लिए आर्थिक उदारीकरण के रास्ते खोल दिये गये। मनमोहन सिंह ने तीन श्रेणियों में बड़े बदलाव किए, उदारीकरण, वैश्वीकरण और निजीकरण करने की बात कही। मनमोहन सिंह ने आयाता-निर्यात नीति में भी बड़े बदलाव किए। इम्पोर्ट लाइसेंस फीस को घटाया गया और एक्सपोर्ट को प्रमोट किया गया। कस्टम ड्यूटी को 220 फीसदी से घटाकर 150 फीसदी किया गया। बजट में बैंकों पर आरबीआई के नियंत्रण को भी कम किया गया। बैंकों को जमा और कर्ज पर ब्याज दर और कर्ज की राशि तय करने का अधिकार दिया गया। नए निजी बैंक खोलने के नियम भी आसान किए गए। इससे देश में बैंकों का बहुत विस्तार हुआ। कांग्रेस सरकार ने लाइसेंस राज खत्म कर दिया। किस वस्तु का कितना उत्पादन होगा और कितनी कीमत होगी, इसका फैसला बाजार पर छोड़ दिया गया। केंद्र सरकार ने करीब 18 उद्योगों को छोड़कर बाकी सभी के लिए लाइसेंस की अनिवार्यता को खत्म कर दिया। इन बदलावों ने भारतीय उद्योगों को सीधे अंतरराष्ट्रीय बाजार से प्रतिस्पर्धा के द्वार खोल दिए। सुधारों का परिणाम यह हुआ कि अगले 1 दशक में भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था ने तेज गति से विकास किया।

1994 असम के बसबारी में बोडो उग्रवादियों ने 37 मुस्लिमों की हत्या की।

1999 अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष यान कोलंबिया का सफल प्रक्षेपण हुआ। इसी दिन 1999 में ब्रिटेन के लिवरपुल में प्रथम सार्वभौमिक महिला धर्मसभा का आयोजन हुआ।

2000 एस. विजयलक्ष्मी यानी सुब्बारमन विजयालक्ष्मी भारत की शतरंज की पहली महिला ग्रैंडमास्टर बनीं।

2002 यूरोपीय यूनियन ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र जनसंख्या कोष में 3.20 करोड़ यूरो अतिरिक्त देने का निर्णय लिया।

2004 इटली ने भारतीय पर्यटकों के लिए सात वीजा काल सेंटर शुरू करने का निर्णय लिया।

2005 कोरियाई क्षेत्र को परमाणु हथियारों से मुक्त करने हेतु उत्तर और दक्षिण कोरिया के बीच सहमति बनी।

2006 प्यूर्टो रिको की नवयौवना जुलेखा रिवेरा मेंडोजा गिस यूनिवर्स चुनी गईं।

2008 फ्रांस के ट्रिकेस्टिन परमाणु संयंत्र में हुए रिसाव से लगभग 100 व्यक्ति प्रभावित हुए।

2010 भारत ने पहली बार राष्ट्रीय आयकर दिवस का आयोजन किया। सन 1860 में 24 जुलाई को भारत में अंग्रेज राज में आयकर व्यवस्था की शुरुआत हुई। आयकर का प्रावधान सर जेम्स विल्सन ने पेश किया था। 2010 में इसी दिन व्यभिचार के आरोप में फांसी की सजा का सामना कर रही ईरानी महिला सकीना मोहम्मदी अश्तिनी को रिहा करने की मांग को लेकर पेरिस, न्यूयॉर्क, ओटोवा और अन्य जगहों पर मानवाधिकारवादियों ने रैलियां आयोजित कीं।

2011 इंटरनेशनल सेल्फ-केयर फाउंडेशन ने अंतर्राष्ट्रीय स्व-देखभाल दिवस की स्थापना की। इस दिन स्वास्थ्य के मामले में अपनी देखभाल खुद करने के लिए जनता को जागरूक किया जाता है।

2012 मिस्र के राष्ट्रपति मोहम्मद मुर्सी ने हिशम कंदिल को प्रधानमंत्री नियुक्त किया, और उन्हें नई सरकार बनाने का निमंत्रण दिया।

2013 अमेरिकी खुफिया जानकारियां सार्वजनिक करने वाले व्हिसलब्लोअर एडवर्ड स्नोडेन रूस के शेरमेतियोवो अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे पर हिरासत में लिए गये।

2014 भारत ने राष्ट्रीय थर्मल इंजीनियर दिवस किया। इससे पूर्व इसी दिन राष्ट्रीय थर्मल इंजीनियर दिवस मनाने की घोषणा अमेरिकी कंपनी एडवांस्ड थर्मल सॉल्यूशंस इंक द्वारा की गई थी। 3024 में इसी दिन यूक्रेन के प्रधानमंत्री, आर्सेनी यात्सेनियुक ने ऊर्जा जरूरतों और सैन्य जरूरतों के लिए धन आवंटन में संसद की निष्क्रियता पर निराशा में अपना इस्तीफा दिया। इसी दिन ई-कामर्स कंपनी अमेजॅन इंक ने दूसरी तिमाही के लिए 126 डाॅलर मिलियन के नुकसान की रिपोर्ट दी। इसके अलावा कंपनी ने अधिक ग्राहकों को आकर्षित करने और बनाए रखने के लिए नई सेवाओं में निवेश की घोषणा की.

2017 तार्किकता, वैज्ञानिकता से ओतप्रोत शिक्षा के पैरोकार, चिंतक, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता और मशहूर वैज्ञानिक यश पाल का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन भारत के अंतरिक्ष वैज्ञानिक और इसरो के अध्यक्ष रहे उडुपी रामचन्द्र राव का निधन हुआ।

2020 मशहूर भारतीय नृत्यांगना एवं कोरियोग्राफर अमला शंकर का निधन हुआ।

2022 उपराष्ट्रपति पद के चुनाव के लिए विपक्ष की उम्मीदवार मार्गरेट अल्वा ने केंद्र सरकार की ओर स्पष्ट रूप से इशारा करते हुए आरोप लगाया कि नेताओं के फोन कॉल पर बिग ब्रदर नजर रख रहे हैं। इससे पहले, अल्वा ने कहा था कि वह भाजपा में कुछ मित्रों से बात करने के बाद वह न तो किसी को फोन कर पा रही हैं और न ही उन्हें कोई कॉल आ पा रहा है। अल्वा ने ट्वीट किया, नए भारत में विभिन्न दलों के नेताओं के बीच सभी वार्तालापों के दौरान यह डर रहता है कि बिग ब्रदर हमेशा देख और सुन रहे हैं। कांग्रेस की वरिष्ठ नेता और 4 राज्यों की राज्यपाल रहीं अल्वा का कहना है कि विभिन्न दलों के सांसद एवं नेता कई फोन रखते हैं, बार-बार नंबर बदलते हैं और वे जब मिलते हैं, तो फुसफुसाकर बात करते हैं। डर लोकतंत्र की हत्या कर देता है। अल्वा ने दो सरकारी दूरसंचार कंपनी को संबोधित करते हुए सोमवार रात ट्वीट किया था, प्रिय बीएसएनएल, एमटीएनएल, आज भाजपा के कुछ मित्रों से बात करने के बाद मैं किसी को कॉल नहीं कर पा रही हूं और न ही किसी का फोन आ पा रहा है। अगर आप सेवाएं बहाल कर देंगे, तो मैं वादा करती हूं कि आज रात भाजपा, टीएमसी (तृणमूल कांग्रेस) या बीजद (बीजू जनता दल) के किसी सांसद को फोन नहीं करूंगी।

1783 José Antonio de la Santisima Trinidad Bolivar Palacios Ponte y Blanco, world-renowned warrior, good ruler, as Simón Bolívar or Simon Bolivar, was born in Caracas, Venezuela. Simón Bolívar led the present-day countries of Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, and Bolivia to independence from the Spanish Empire.

1789 George Washington, the first US President, attends the Virginia House of Burgesses, the first assembly in North America.

1985 A historic agreement was signed between Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Saint Harchand Singh Longowal on behalf of the Khalistan movement. Since the 80s, Punjab was in an atmosphere of violence, shootings, bomb blasts and turmoil. The demand for Khalistan by the fundamentalist Sikhs was gaining momentum. They were running a movement for the demand of Khalistan, a country of Sikhs separate from India. During this period, bombs were detonated in transistor bombs and many other forms. The Khalistanis took thousands of lives through their violent actions. Their demand was to create a separate district from Punjab to Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. It is also called the Punjab Accord. The agreement included many things like compensation for innocent people killed, border disputes, investigation of riots, decision of pending cases and recruitment in the army.
