1540 जानोस सिगीसमंद जपोलयाइ को तुर्की में हंगरी के राजा के रूप में मान्यता मिली।

1555 सरहिंद, पंजाब में सिकंदर शाह सूरी को हराकर मुगल शासक मिर्जा नासिरुद्दीन मोहम्मद हुमायूं दिल्ली पहुंचा। हुमायूं दूसरे मुगल शासक हुए, प्रथम मुगल बादशाह जहीरुद्दीन मोहम्मद बाबर के बेटे।

1798 फ्रांस के सम्राट नेपोलियन बोनापार्ट ने मिस्र में अलेक्जेंड्रिया पर कब्जा किया।

1829 अमेरिका के विलियम ऑस्टिन बर्ट ने टाइपोग्राफ का पेटेंट कराया जिसने टाइपराइटर की नींव रखी।

1856 प्रसिद्ध उग्र राष्ट्रवादी, सामंतवादी भारतीय राजनीतिज्ञ, गणितज्ञ, दार्शनिक बाल गंगाधर तिलक का जन्म हुआ।

1877 हवाई में पहली टेलीफोन और टेलीग्राफ लाइन बिछायी गयी।

1881 लीज, बेल्जियम में दुनिया का सबसे पुराना खेल संघ इंटरनेशनल फेडरेशन ऑफ जिमनास्टिक्स स्थापित किया गया।

1898 पश्चिम बंगाल के लाभपुर में तारासंकर बंद्योपाध्याय का जन्म हुआ। तारासंकर प्रसिद्ध भारतीय उपन्यासकार थे जिन्होंने बंगाली भाषा में लिखा था। उनके 65 उपन्यास, 53-कहानी संग्रह 12 नाटक, 4 निबंध संग्रह 4 आत्मकथाएँ, 2 यात्रा कहानियाँ लिखीं और कई गीतों की रचना की। उन्हें रवींद्र पुरस्कार, साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार, ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार, पद्मश्री और पद्म भूषण अन्य अनेक सम्मान, पुरस्कार प्रदान किये गये।

1903 हेनरी फोर्ड की मोटर कार कंपनी फोर्ड ने अपनी पहली कार बेची।

1904 लुसियाना, अमेरिका चार्ल्स इ मेंसियस ने मलाइबरफ संकु (आइसक्रीम कोण) की खोज करने का दावा किया और 23 जुलाई को आयोजित मेले में इसे पेश किया।

1906 अमर शहीद भगत सिंह और रामप्रसाद बिस्मिल के साथी और प्रसिद्ध क्रांतिकारी शहीद चंद्रशेखर आजाद यानी चंद्र शेखर तिवारी का जन्म मध्य प्रदेश के भावरा में हुआ।

1914 आर्क्ड्यूक फ्रांसिस फर्डिनेंड की हत्या के बाद आस्ट्रीया-हंगरी ने सर्बिया को चेतावनी दी और फिर इसी के साथ प्रथम विश्व युद्ध शुरु हो गया।

1916 जाने माने इथोपियाई सम्राट हेल सलासी-1 का जन्म हुआ।

1920 ब्रिटिश आधिपत्य वाले पूर्वी अफ्रीका का नाम केन्या किया गया और इसे ब्रिटिश उपनिवेश घोषित किया गया।

1927 भारत में नियमित रेडियो प्रसारण की शुरुआत मुंबई से हुई। इसकी याद में 23 जुलाई को भारत में प्रसारण दिवस मनाया जाता है।

1929 तानाशाह बेनीटो मुसोलिनी की फासीवादी सरकार ने इटली में विदेशी शब्दों के प्रयोग पर पूर्ण प्रतिबंध लगा दिया।

1936 मौत का गीत गाने वाले, रोमांस के प्रमुख भारतीय पंजाबी कवि, नाटककार शिव कुमार बटालवी का जन्म बराड़ पिंड पाकिस्तान में हुआ। इन्हें साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार सहित अनेक पुरस्कार, सम्मान मिले।

1952 मिस्र में हुई क्रांति में मुहम्मद नाजिर के नेतृत्व में कुछ युवा सैनिकों ने विद्रोह कर बादशाह फारुख प्रथम का साशन समाप्त कर उसे देश से बाहर निकाल दिया।

1942 बर्बर जर्मन तानाशाह एडोल्फ हिटलर ने रूस स्टालिनग्राद पर कब्जा करने का आदेश जारी किया।

1944 द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध में संलग्न अमेरिकी की सेना ने इटली के पीसा पर कब्जा किया। 

1947 महाराष्ट्र के भोर में डॉ मोहन महादेव आगाशे का जन्म हुआ। मोहन प्रसिद्ध भारतीय रंगमंच और फिल्म अभिनेता तथा मनोचिकित्सक है। 1996 में उन्हें संगीत नाटक अकादमी पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।

1951 उड़ीसा के सुंदरगढ़ में अजीत जैन का जन्म हुआ जो भारतीय-अमेरिकी कारोबारी, प्रशासक हैं और 10 जनवरी, 2018 तक बर्कशायर हैथवे के बीमा संचालन के उपाध्यक्ष रहे हैं। अजीत जैन अंशू जैन के बड़े चचेरे भाई हैं, जो डॉयचे बैंक के पूर्व सह-सीईओ थे।

1952 यूरोपीय कोयला और इस्पात समुदाय की स्थापना की गयी।

1953 विख्यात अँग्रेज क्रिकेटर ग्रेन ऐलेन गूज का जन्म  हुआ।

1961 विख्यात अमेरिकी भारतीय उपन्यासकार विक्रम चंद्र का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1970 जम्मू एवं कश्मीर के श्रीनगर में प्रियदर्शिनी मट्टू का जन्म हुआ। 25 वर्षीय कानून की छात्रा प्रियदर्शिनी के साथ 23 जनवरी 1996 को नई दिल्ली में उसके घर पर बलात्कार और हत्या कर दी गई थी। 17 अक्टूबर 2006 को, दिल्ली उच्च न्यायालय ने दोषी संतोष कुमार सिंह को बलात्कार और हत्या दोनों मामलों में दोषी पाया, और उसी वर्ष 30 अक्टूबर को उसे मौत की सजा सुनाई। इसी दिन ओमान के शहजादे या राजकुमार कबूस ने अपने पिता सैद बिन तैमूर को जबरन पद से हटाया और खुद सुल्तान ऑफ ओमान बन गया।

1973 हिंदी फिल्मो के जाने माने निर्माता, निर्देशक, अभिनेता और गायक हिमेश रेशमिया का जन्म हुआ।

1974 यूनान में सैन्य शासन खत्म हुआ और पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री कौन्सटैनटिन कारमनालिस को दोबारा सत्ता संभालने का निमंत्रण दिया गया।

1975 सूर्या के नाम से मशहूर सर्वाधिक पारिश्रमिक पाने वाले अभिनेताओं में से एक सर्वनन शिवकुमार का जन्म मद्रास में हुआ।

1976 प्रसिद्ध हंगेरीयन महिला शतरंज खिलाड़ी ज्यूरिथ पोलगाँव का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन तमिलनाडु के संगीतज्ञ इलैयाराजा की बेटी गायिका और संगीतज्ञ भवतारिणी राजा का जन्म हुआ।

1983 तमिल टाइगर्स के नाम से विख्यात लिबरेशन टाइगर्स आॅफ तमिल इलम विद्रोहियों ने सरकार के खिलाफ युद्ध प्रारंभ किया। इसके नेता वेलुपिल्लई प्रभाकरण थे।

1984 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी अभिनेत्री, गायिका, नर्तकी, और फिल्म निर्मात्री वेनेसा विलियम्स मिस अमेरिका के इतिहास में अपना खिताब छोड़ने वाली पहली महिला बनी। एक नग्न तस्वीर के कारण उन्हें खिताब छोड़ने को मजबूर किया गया। पहली अफ्रीकी-अमेरिकी मिस अमेरिका वेनेसा विलियम्स को दो साल पहले पेंटहाउस मैगजीन में छपी अपनी नग्न तस्वीरों के कारण हुए विवाद के बाद मिस अमेरिका का खिताब वापस करना पड़ा। 

1986 प्रसिद्ध ब्रिटिश लेखिका, दानकर्ता, सार्वजनिक वक्ता, टीवी व्यक्तियत्व और फिल्म निर्माता फर्गी के सारा फर्ग्यूसन ने ड्यूक ऑफ यॉर्क राजकुमार एंड्रयू से शादी की जिससे वह ब्रिटिश राजघराने की बहु बन गई और उन्हें डचेस की पदवी मिली।

1990 जाने माने भारतीय क्रिकेटर युजवेंद्र चहल का जन्म जींद, हरियाणा में हुआ।

1993 छत्तीसगढ़ के स्वतंत्रता सेनानियों में से एक लक्ष्मण प्रसाद दुबे का निधन हुआ।

1996 क्योंझर उड़ीसा में एलिना सामंत्रेय का जन्म हुआ। एलिना उड़िया एवं बांग्ला फिल्मों की लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री और माॅडल हैं। उन्होंने अपने करियर की शुरुआत फिल्म इश्क तू ही तू से की थी। वह रियलिटी टेलीविजन शो की हेबा मो हीरोइन के पहले सीजन की विजेता थीं, जो तरंग टीवी पर प्रसारित हुआ था।

1998 अमेरिका ने सात भारतीय वैज्ञानिकों को देश छोड़ने के लिए आदेश दिया।

1999 जापान की राजधानी टोक्यों में एएनएन विमान 61 का अपहरण किया गया। इसी दिन मोरक्को के शाह हसन का निधन हुआ।

2000 व्यापक घोषणाओं के साथ नागो में हुए समूह-8 का 26वाँ शिखर सम्मेलन समाप्त हुआ।

2001 पीपुल्स कंसल्टिंग असेंबली ने अब्दुर्रहमानविद को हटाकर मेगावती सुकर्णोपुत्री को इंडोनेशिया की पहली महिला राष्ट्रपति बनाया।

2004 बहुत लोकप्रिय भारतीय हिंदी फिल्मों के हास्य कलाकार, अभिनेता और फिल्म निर्माता-निर्देशक महमूद का निधन डनमोर, पेंसिलवेनिया, अमेरिका में हुआ।

2005 मिस्र के शर्म अल-शेख और नामा बे के कुछ होटलों में हुए बम विस्फोटों से लगभग 100 लोग मारे गये।

2007 अफगानिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति मुहम्मद जहीरशाह का निधन हुआ।

2008 नेपाल के प्रधानमंत्री गिरिजा प्रसाद कोइराला ने नव निर्वाचित राष्ट्रपति रामबरन यादव को अपना इस्तीफा पेश किया।

2011 नॉर्वे की राजधानी ओस्लो में हुए बम विस्फोट और शहर के बाहर स्थित द्वीप युवा शिविर पर गोलीबारी की घटनाओं में 92 लोगों की मौत हो गई। अमेरिका के नेतृत्व वाली नाटो सेना ने 2011 में इसी दिन पूर्वी अफगानिस्तान में एक सैन्य कार्रवाई में 50 घुसपैठियों को मार गिराने का दावा किया। इसी दिन नाइजीरियाई सीनेट ने देश के संविधान को बदलकर चुनावों को फिर से आयोजित किया। इसी दिन ईरानी राष्ट्रपति महमूद अहमदीनेजाद ने 2019 तक मानव चालित शटल अंतरिक्ष में लॉन्च करने की देश की योजना की घोषणा की।

2012 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और समाजसेविका लक्ष्मी सहगल का निधन हुआ था। इराक में 23 जुलाई 2012 को सिलसिलेवार हुए बम हमलों में ।03 लोग मारे गए। इसी दिन अमेरिका की पहली महिला अंतरिक्ष यात्री सैली राइड की 61 वर्ष की उम्र में अग्नाशय के कैंसर से मृत्यु हुई।

2014 ट्रांस एशिया एयरवेज विमान के ताइवान में दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो जाने से 44 लोगों की मौत हुई और 222 घायल हुए। इसी दिन 2014 में अमेरिकी संघीय उड्डयन प्रशासन ने इजरायल के हवाई यात्रा पर लगे प्रतिबंध को समाप्त कर दिया, यह निष्कर्ष निकालने के बाद कि इजरायल हमास के साथ संघर्ष के दौरान विमान को जोखिम से बचाने में सक्षम होगा।

2016 प्रसिद्ध चित्रकार एस. एच. रजा का निधन हुआ था।

2022 तमिलनाडु के मुख्यमंत्री एम.के. स्टालिन ने प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी से आग्रह किया कि वे संबंधित अधिकारियों और मंत्रालयों को केंद्रीय अधिनियमों में आवश्यक संशोधन करने के लिए आवश्यक निर्देश दें, ताकि युद्धग्रस्त यूक्रेन से लौटे छात्रों को यहां अपनी शिक्षा पूरी करने की अनुमति मिल सके। उनकी मांग तब सामने आई जब संसद को बताया गया कि राष्ट्रीय चिकित्सा आयोग किसी भी विदेशी मेडिकल छात्रों को किसी भी भारतीय मेडिकल कॉलेज या विश्वविद्यालय में स्थानांतरित करने या समायोजित करने की अनुमति नहीं दे रहा है।

2022 कांग्रेस के वरिष्ठ नेता, हरियाणा में नेता प्रतिपक्ष और हरियाणा के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री वर्तमान में विधान सभा में नेता प्रतिपक्ष भूपेंद्र सिंह हुड्डा ने रविवार 23 जुलाई को को पत्रकारों से बातचीत में कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री फसल बीमा योजना किसान नहीं बल्कि कंपनियों के हित में है। किसान मुआवजे के लिए दर-दर भटकते रहे और कंपनियों ने सिर्फ 5 साल में 40 हजार करोड़ का मोटा मुनाफा कमा लिया। कंपनियों को और फायदा पहुंचाने के लिए सरकार ने धान, कपास, बाजरा, मक्का फसल के बीमे के प्रीमियम में फिर बढ़ोतरी कर दी है। कांग्रेस इसका कड़ा विरोध करती है। हुड्डा ने कहा कि उनके नेतृत्व में गठित कमेटी ने फसल बीमा सरकारी कंपनियों के हवाले करने की सिफारिश की थी। किसानों को नुकसान के मुताबिक पूरा मुआवजा देने की भी मांग उठाई गई थी।

हुड्डा ने खेल नीति में सरकार की ओर से किए गए बदलाव का विरोध किया। उन्होंने कहा कि भाजपा-जजपा सरकार के दौरान सिर्फ कर्ज, बेरोजगारी, महंगाई और लूट में बढ़ोतरी हो रही है। इसके अलावा विकास के तमाम पैमानों पर हरियाणा पिछड़ रहा है। यही वजह है कि आज प्रदेश पर कर्ज बढ़कर 3 लाख 24 हजार करोड़ रुपए तक पहुंच चुका है। लेकिन प्रदेश के आधारभूत ढांचे में दूर-दूर तक कोई सुधार नजर नहीं आता। सुधार करने की बजाय मौजूदा सरकार ने कांग्रेस सरकार में लागू की गई प्रदेश की खेल व शिक्षा नीति का बंटाधार कर दिया। चिराग योजना के जरिए सरकारी स्कूलों की बजाय निजी शिक्षा को बढ़ावा दिया जा रहा है। उन्होंने कहा कि कानून व्यवस्था इतनी चौपट हो चुकी है कि आज न कानून बनाने वाले विधायक सुरक्षित हैं, न कानूनों को लागू करने वाली पुलिस और न ही आम जनता।

1984 Famous American actress, singer, dancer, and film producer Vanessa Williams becomes the first woman in the history of Miss America to give up her title. She was forced to relinquish the title due to a nude photo. Vanessa Williams, the first African-American Miss America, was forced to give up her Miss America title two years ago following a controversy over her nude photos published in Penthouse magazine.

1993 Laxman Prasad Dubey, one of the freedom fighters of Chhattisgarh, passed away.

1996 Alina Samantreya was born in Keonjhar, Odisha. Alina is a popular actress and model in Oriya and Bengali films. He started his career with the film Ishq Tu Hi Tu. She was the winner of the first season of the reality television show Heba Mo Heroine, which aired on Tarang TV.
