838 अरब-बीजेंटाइन युद्ध में अब्बासिद खलीफा की सेना ने बीजेंटाइन सम्राट थियोफिलोस के नेतृत्व वाली सेना को डेजमान, तुर्की के पास अंजन की लड़ाई में हराया। 

1209 अल्बेंसियन धर्मयुद्ध की पहली बड़ी सैन्य कार्रवाई में एक क्रूसेडर सेना ने दक्षिणी फ्रांस में बेजियर्स पर कब्जा कर लिया और स्थानीय निवासियों की हत्या कर दी।

1731 स्पेन ने वियना संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1775 जॉर्ज वॉशिंगटन ने प्रथम राष्ट्रपति नियुक्त होकर अमेरिकी सेना की कमान संभाली।

1802 जिया लॉन्ग ने हनोई पर विजय प्राप्त की और आधुनिक वियतनाम को एकीकृत किया।

1887 जर्मनी के हैंबर्ग में गुस्ताव लुडविग हर्ट्ज का जन्म हुआ। गुस्ताव प्रायोगिक भौतिक विज्ञानी और गैसों में अकुशल इलेक्ट्रॉन टकराव पर अपने काम के लिए जाने जाते हैं। उन्हें इस पर नोबेल पुरस्कार मिला।

1894 पहली लोकसभा के सदस्य सरदार तेजा सिंह अकरपुरी का जन्म हुआ।

1898 प्रसिद्ध शास्त्रीय संगीत गायक पद्मभूषण सम्मानित विनायकराव पटवर्धन का जन्म मिराज, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ।

1899 सोभुजा द्वितीय का जन्म हुआ। सोभुजा 82 साल और 254 दिनों तक स्वाजीलैंड का न्ग्वेन्यामा यानी शासक रहे जो रिकॉर्ड किए गए इतिहास में किसी भी राजा का सबसे लंबा सत्यापित शासनकाल है।

1915 लंदन विश्वविद्यालय से पीएचडी करने वाली पहली मुस्लिम महिला, पाकिस्तानी कूटनीतिज्ञ और लेखिका साइस्ता सुहरावर्दी इकरामुल्लाह का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1918 भारत के पहले पायलट इंद्रलाल राय लंदन के आसपास जर्मनी के विमानों के साथ संघर्ष में मारे गए।

1923 भारतीय हिंदी फिल्मों के प्रसिद्ध पार्श्व गायक मुकेश यानी मुकेश चंद्र माथुर का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1925 विख्यात तेलुगू कवि एवं लेखक, साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार प्राप्त करने वाले दशरथी कृष्णामाचार्युलू का जन्म चिन्नागुदूर, तेलंगाना में हुआ।

1933 स्वाधीनता संग्राम सेनानी यतींद्र मोहन सेन गुप्त का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन तमिल, तेलुगू और हिंदी सहित कई भाषाओं के फिल्म निर्देशक तथा पटकथाकार सीवी श्रीधर का जन्म हुआ।

1934 अल्बामा के बर्मिंगटन में विख्यात अमेरिकी फिल्म अभिनेत्री एस्टेले लुईस फ्लेचर का जन्म हुआ। फ्लेचर को मनोवैज्ञानिक ड्रामा फिल्म वन फ्लू ओवर द कुकूज नेस्ट में प्रतिपक्षी नर्स रैच्ड के किरदार के लिए उन्हें बहुत ख्याति मिली। फ्लेचर को अकादमी पुरस्कार, बाफ्टा पुरस्कार और सर्वश्रेष्ठ अभिनेत्री के लिए गोल्डन ग्लोब पुरस्कार सहित कई अन्य पुरस्कार, सम्मान मिले।

1947 भारत के राष्ट्रीय ध्वज तिरंगे को 22 जुलाई को भारत सरकार ने अपनाया। 1947 में इसी दिन संगीतकार डॉनल्ड ह्यू डॉन हेनली का जन्म हुआ।

1948 श्रीलंका के प्रसिद्ध फिल्म निर्माता, निर्देशक और लेखक चंद्रन रत्नम का जन्म हुआ।

1949 प्रमुख कांग्रेस नेता और उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री रहे हेमवती नंदन बहुगुणा की बेटी प्रसिद्ध महिला राजनीतिज्ञ तथा 17वीं लोकसभा की भाजपा सांसद रीता बहुगुणा जोशी का जन्म हुआ।

1955 जाने माने भारतीय फिल्म और टेलीविजन अभिनेता मज़हर खान का जन्म हुआ।

1959 भारतीय जनता पार्टी नेता मोदी सरकार में मंत्री अनंत कुमार का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन महाराष्ट्र चर्चित नेता अजीत पवार का जन्म हुआ।

1964 अफ्रीकी एकता संगठन की दूसरी बैठक आयोजित।

1965  भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान, वाराण्सी में प्राध्यापक रहे रेमन मैगसेसे पुरस्कार’ प्राप्त प्रसिद्ध भारतीय सामाजिक, मानवाधिकार कार्यकर्ता संदीप पांडेय का जन्म हुआ।

1967 लंदन के इस्लिंगटन में मशहूर ब्रिटिश महिला पत्रकार लॉरेन बूथ का जन्म हुआ। यह पूर्व ब्रिटिश प्रधान मंत्री टोनी ब्लेयर की पत्नी की बहन हैं और 2003 में इराक पर आक्रमण और गाजा की घेराबंदी की ब्रिटेन और अमेरिका की घोर विरोधी, आलोचक हैं। 2010 में फिलिस्तीन में लॉरेन ने इस्लाम धर्म अपना लिया।

1968 पद्म भूषण सम्मान प्राप्त करने वाली प्रसिद्ध महिला चिकित्सक, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता मुत्तू लक्ष्मी रेड्डी का निधन हुआ।

1970 भाजपा नेता और महाराष्ट्र के 18वें मुख्यमंत्री देवेन्द्र फडणवीस का जन्म हुआ।

1974 ओपन मैग्जीन के संपादक, प्रमुख पत्रकार और लेखक मनु जोसफ का जन्म कोट्टायम केरल में हुआ। आम आदमी पार्टी के नेता और दिल्ली के परिवहन मंत्री कैलाश गहलौत का जन्म इसी दिन दिल्ली में हुआ।

1978 फिल्म अभिनेता संजय दत्त की पत्नी और अभिनेत्री तथा संजय दत्त प्रोडक्शन की प्रमुख मान्यता दत्त का जन्म हुआ।

1979 जाने माने बाॅलवुड फिल्म और टेलीविजन अभिनेता, फोटोग्राफर, माॅडल और इंजीनियर मनीष रायसिंहन का जन्म हुआ।

1980 जाने माने बाॅलवुड फिल्म और टेलीविजन अभिनेता तथा माॅडल विशाल मल्होत्रा का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1981 भारत के पहले भूस्थिर उपग्रह एप्पल ने कार्य करना प्रारंभ किया। जाने माने फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेता विशाल मल्होत्रा का जन्म इसी दिन हुआ।

1988 अमेरिका के 500 वैज्ञानिकों ने रक्षा मंत्रालय पेंटागन में जैविक हथियार बनाने के लिए शोध का बहिष्कार करने की प्रतिज्ञा ली।

1989 जाने माने बाॅलवुड फिल्म और टेलीविजन अभिनेता तथा माॅडल अहम शर्मा का जन्म सलीमपुर, बिहार में हुआ।

1991 कुख्यात अमेरिकी सीरियल किलर जेफरी डेमर को विस्कॉन्सिन के विल्वायूकी में गिरफ्तार किया गया। पुलिस को उसके घर से काफी मानव अवशेष मिले।

1992 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, लोकप्रिय अमेरिकी फिल्म और टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री, गायिका और माॅडल सेलेना मैरी गोमेज का जन्म ग्रांड प्रैरी, टेक्सास में हुआ।

1995 जाने माने फिल्मी गीत गायक अरमान मलिक का जन्म हुआ।

1999 अंतर्राष्ट्रीय श्रम संगठन द्वारा समान कार्य के लिए समान पारिश्रमिक की कार्य योजना लागू हुई। इसी दिन एमएसएन मैसेन्जर का पहला संस्करण बिल गेट्स की तकनीकी कंपनी माइक्रोसॉफ्ट ने जारी किया।

2000 अमेरिका के एरिजोना विश्वविद्यालय के खलोलविदों ने बृहस्पति के 17वें प्राकृतिक उपग्रह की खोज की।

2001 शेर बहादुर देउबा नेपाल के नये प्रधानमंत्री बने और इसी दिन समूह-आठ देशों का जिनेवा में सम्मेलन सम्पन्न हुआ ।

2002 इजरायल के सुरक्षा बलों ने फिलिस्तीन के संगठन हमास के सैन्य शाखा के नेता सलासाहेदे के घर पर एक बम गिराया, जिससे वह और उसके भाई मारे गए।

2003 अमेरिकी सैनिकों ने इराक में हवाई हमले में राष्ट्रपति सद्दाम हुसैन के दो बेटे मार दिए।

2004 शांति के लिए 1976 में नोबेल पुरस्कार जीतने वाली बैटी बिलियम्स मैक्सिको में गिरफ्तार हुईं।

2005 आतंकवादी होने के संदेह में लंदन पुलिस ने निर्दोष ब्राजीली नागरिक जीन चार्ल्स डे-मेंसेज को मार डाला।

2008 पाकिस्तान के परमाणु वैज्ञानिक अब्दुल कादिर खान ने एक अदालत में अपने विरुद्ध लगे प्रतिबंधों पर पुनर्विचार के लिए याचिका दायर की।

2009 21वीं सदी का अब तक का सबसे लंबा पूर्ण सूर्यग्रहण लगा।

2010 विश्व प्रसिद्ध गेंदबाज श्रीलंका के मुथैया मुरलीघरन ने टेस्ट क्रिकेट से संन्यास लिया। इनके नाम सर्वाधिक 800 विकेट लेने का रिकोर्ड है।

2011 विवेकानंद इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ ट्रॉपिकल मायकोलॉजी के फफूंदी अनुसंधान दल ने 100-115 डिग्री सेल्सियस तापमान सह सकने वाले तापरोधी फफूंदी के बीजाणुओं की खोज की। इसी दिन एक चरमपंथी व्यक्ति ने ओस्लो, नॉर्वे में एक कार बम विस्फोट किया, जिसमें कम से कम सात लोग मारे गए। उसने नॉर्वे के उटोया में एक लेबर पार्टी के युवा शिविर में आग लगा दी जिसमें 84 लोग मारे गए।

2012 कांग्रेस के प्रमुख नेता और केंद्रीय मंत्री रहे प्रणव मुखर्जी भारत के 13वें राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित हुए। इसी दिन 2012 में चीन में भारी बारिश के कारण 77 लोग मरे गए।

2013 डचेस ऑफ कैम्ब्रिज कैथरीन ने एक बेटे को जन्म दिया। यह तीसरा ब्रिटिश राजगद्दी उत्तराधिकारी। जॉर्ज अलेक्जेंडर लुइस नाम के बच्चे को औपचारिक रूप से हिज रॉयल हाइनेस प्रिंस ऑफ कैम्ब्रिज के रूप में जाना जाता है।

2014 एक जांच रिपोर्ट में 9/11 हमले को सरकारी संस्थाओं की नाकामी बताया गया।

2020 अंतर्राष्ट्रीय गणित दिवस या पाई एप्परोक्सीमिनीशन डे पहली बार दुनिया भर में मनाया गया। अंश 22/7 ाा का एक सामान्य सन्निकटन है, जो आर्किमिडीज से दो दशमलव स्थानों और तिथियों तक सटीक है। बहुत से लोग 14 मार्च को पाई दिवस के रूप में मनाते हैं क्योंकि यह तारीख प्रसिद्ध स्थिरांक 3.14 की संख्या में अंकित है। तारीखें लिखने का ऐसा प्रारूप अधिकतर अमेरिका में अपनाया जाता है। वैसे पाई दिवस 14 मार्च को मनाया जाता है और पाई सन्निकटन दिवस 22 जुलाई को मनाया जाता है। पाई दिवस की स्थापना वर्ष 1988 में लैरी शॉ ने की थी। नवंबर 2019 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने पाई दिवस को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय गणित दिवस के रूप में नामित किया।

1731 Spain signs the Treaty of Vienna.

1775 George Washington, appointed the first President, took command of the American army.

1802 Gia Long conquered Hanoi and unified modern Vietnam.

1887 Gustav Ludwig Hertz was born in Hamburg, Germany. Gustav is an experimental physicist and is known for his work on inelastic electron collisions in gases. He got the Nobel Prize for this.

1915 Pakistani diplomat and writer Saista Suhrawardy Ikramullah, the first Muslim woman to earn a PhD from the University of London, was born in Calcutta.

1918 Indralal Rai, India's first pilot, is killed in a clash with German planes over London.

1923 Mukesh i.e. Mukesh Chandra Mathur, famous playback singer of Indian Hindi films, was born in Delhi.

1925 Dasarathi Krishnamacharyulu, noted Telugu poet and writer, Sahitya Akademi awardee, was born in Chinnagudur, Telangana.

1933 Freedom fighter Yatindra Mohan Sen Gupta passed away. On this day CV Sridhar, film director and screenwriter of many languages including Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, was born.

1934 Estelle Louise Fletcher, noted American film actress, was born in Burmington, Alabama. Fletcher is best known for her portrayal of Nurse Ratched, the antagonist in the psychological drama film One Flu Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Fletcher has received numerous other awards and accolades, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress.
