1863 लंदन में विश्व की पहली भूमिगत रेल की सेवा शुरू। 1863 में दुनिया की सबसे पुरानी अंडरग्राउंड मेट्रो रेल का उद्घाटन हुआ। 1853 में इस काम की जिम्मेदारी चीफ इंजीनियर सर जॉन फॉलर को दी गई थी। 10 साल बाद पहली बार पैडिंगटन से फैरिंगडॉन स्ट्रीट स्टेशनों के बीच पहली अंडरग्राउंड मेट्रो चली। भारत में पहली मेट्रो ट्रेन 1984 में कोलकाता में शुरू हुई थी। इसके बाद 2002 में देश की राजधानी दिल्ली में मेट्रो सेवा शुरू हुई। इसके बाद मुंबई, चेन्नई, बेंगलुरु, लखनऊ समेत देश के कई शहरों में मेट्रो सेवाएं शुरू हो चुकी हैं।

1927 अजमेर में बासु चटर्जी का जन्म हुआ। वे हिंदी और बंगाली सिनेमा के जाने-माने पटकथा लेखक और निर्देशक थे और उन्होंने अनेक पारिवारिक विषयों की लोकप्रिय फिल्मों का निर्देशन किया।

1929 विश्व भर में बच्चों के मनोरंजन के लिए प्रसिद्ध कार्टून चरित्र टिनटिन का जन्म हुआ। 10 जनवरी 1929 को बेल्जियम के अखबार में पहली बार टिनटिन छपा था। टिनटिन की उस पहली कार्टून सीरीज का नाम था द एडवेंचर्स ऑफ टिनटिन। टिनटिन एक साहसी रिपोर्टर है, जो अपने कुत्ते स्नोई के साथ दुनिया भर में यात्रा करता है। टिनटिन ऐसा कार्टून चरित्र है जिसके पास तेज बुद्धि है, वह ईमानदार, सभ्य, और दयालु है। वह अपना बचाव कर सकता है। अपनी खोजी रिपोर्टिंग, तुरंत-सोचने की क्षमता, और अपने अच्छे स्वभाव के जरिए, वह हमेशा रहस्यों को सुलझाने और साहसिक कार्य पूरा करने में सक्षम है। कार्टून चरित्र टिनटिन बेल्जियम के कार्टूनिस्ट जॉर्जिस रेमी के दिमाग की उपज है। जॉर्जिस को हर्जे नाम से भी जाना जाता है। 76 साल की उम्र में हर्जे का 1983 में निधन हो गया था। उनके निधन के बाद भी टिनटिन कॉमिक्स की लोकप्रियता में कमी नहीं आई। टिनटिन की पहली कॉमिक पुस्तक, टिनटिन इन द लैंड ऑफ सोवियत, 1930 में छपी। अब तक टिनटिन की कॉमिक्स 100 से अधिक भाषाओं में छप चुकी हैं। चंद्रमा पर वास्तव में इंसान के कदम रखने से 15 साल पहले ही 1954 में आई टिनटिन की मैगजीन और कॉमिक बुक में चंद्रमा पर खोजकर्ताओं के जाने का जिक्र किया गया था। चंद्रमा पर पहली बार इंसान ने 1969 में कदम रखा था और नील आर्मस्ट्रांग ऐसा करने वाले पहले व्यक्ति बने थे। दुनिया भर में पसंद किये गये टिनटिन कॉमिक्स का 100 से ज्यादा भाषाओं में अनुवाद हो चुका है और इसकी 35 करोड़ से ज्यादा कॉपियां बिक चुकी हैं। खास बात ये है कि जॉर्जिस की कॉमिक्स में टिनटिन दुनिया के अलग-अलग देशों का दौरा करके रहस्यों को सुलझाता है, मजे की बात ये है कि जॉर्जिस कभी उन देशों में गए ही नहीं थे, जहां टिनटिन कॉमिक्स में जाता है। टिनटिन पर कई फिल्में भी बनी हैं। इनमें से पांच फिल्में जॉर्जिस के जीवित रहते रिलीज हुई थीं। जॉर्जिस की अंतिम इच्छा थी कि उनकी मौत के बाद कोई दूसरा आर्टिस्ट टिनटिन पर कॉमिक्स न बनाए। टिनटिन पर कुल 24 कॉमिक्स छपी हैं। आखिरी कॉमिक्स 1986 में आई थी।

1929 भारत के जाने माने कानूनविद, सुप्रीम कोर्ट के प्रमुख अधिवक्ता, बार एसोसिएशन आॅफ इंडिया के अध्यक्ष रहे फली सैम नरीमन का रंगून, बर्मा में जन्म हुआ।

1933 ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार से सम्मानित प्रसिद्ध पंजाबी साहित्यकार गुरदयाल सिंह का जन्म हुआ।

1937 जाने माने कांग्रेस नेता, केंद्र में मंत्री हुए मुरली देवड़ा का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1940 भारतीय गायक और शास्त्रीय संगीतकार केजे येसुदास का जन्म हुआ।

1946 लंदन में संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा की पहली बैठक में 51 राष्ट्रों के प्रतिनिधियों ने भाग लिया।

1949 फिल्म निर्माण कंपनी गीता आर्ट्स के मालिक, तेलुगू के प्रमुख फिल्म अभिनेता, निर्माता और वितरक अल्लू अरविंद का जन्म हुआ।

1954 ब्रिटेन का कॉमेट जेट भूमध्यसागर में दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हुआ, विमान में सवार सभी 35 लोग मारे गए। कॉमेट दुनिया का पहला जेट विमान था जिसे ब्रिटेन ने बनाया था।

1963 भारत सरकार ने स्वर्ण नियंत्रण योजना की शुरुआत की। स्विटजरलैंड के टाइट्स (जपजने) और सोलवेल नाम के दो व्यक्ति 1963 में इलेक्ट्रॉनिक घड़ी बनाने में सफल हुए। इस घड़ी में चाबी भरने की आवश्कता नहीं होती थी।

1968 भारत के जाने माने स्टेंडअप काॅमेडियन, यूट्यूब और टेलीविजन चैनलों के प्रोग्राम प्रस्तोता अतुल खत्री का बंबई में जन्म हुआ।

1972 पाकिस्तान में जेल में नौ महीने से अधिक समय तक कैद रहने के बाद शेख मुजीबुर रहमान राष्ट्रपिता के रूप में स्वतंत्र राष्ट्र बने बंगलादेश पहुंचे।

1973 भारतीय मूल के प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी अधिवक्ता, कानूनविद अजीत वरदराज पई का जन्म बफैलो, न्यूयाॅर्क में हुआ। इन्हें राष्ट्रपति बराक हुसैन ओबामा ने फेडरल कम्युनिकेशन कमीशन का चेयरमैन बनाया।

1974 जाने माने बाॅलीवुड अभिनेता ह्रितिक रोशन या ऋतिक रोशन का बंबई में जन्म हुआ।

1975 नागपुर में पहला विश्व हिंदी सम्मेलन हुआ।

1984 पांडिचेरी में जन्मी कल्कि कोचलिन जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड भारतीय और फ्रांसीसी फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल हैं।

1985 मुंबई में जन्मी दृष्टि धामी भारत की जानी मानी माॅडल और टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री हैं।

1990 तमिल, तेलुगू, मलयालम आदि भाषाओं की दक्षिण भारतीय सिनेमा की खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल ऐश्वर्या राजेश का जन्म चेन्नई में हुआ।

1991 संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासचिव जेवियर पेरेज द कुइयार खाड़ी युद्ध टालने की अपनी आखिरी कोशिश के तहत इराक की राजधानी बगदाद पहुंचे।

1994 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड माॅडल और अभिनेत्री, मिस इंडिया इंटरनेशनल 2021 ज़ोया अफ़रोज़ का जन्म लखनऊ उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ।

2001 प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी इंडोनेशिया पहुँचे। इसी दिन मेडकाउ बीमारी के प्रति प्रशासनिक लापरवाही के कारण जर्मनी के दो मंत्रियों को इस्तीफा देना पड़ा। इसी दिन रूसी राष्ट्रपति ब्लादिमीर पुतिन सोवियत विघटन के बाद पहली बार अजरबैजान पहुँचे।

2002 ब्रिटिश प्रधानमंत्री टोनी ब्लेयर पाकिस्तान पहुँचे। इसी दिन इस्रायल के विदेश मंत्री शिमोन पेरेज तीन दिवसीय यात्रा पर भारत पहुँचे, संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद व नाटो में भारत की सदस्यता का पेरेज ने समर्थन किया। इसी दिन लाल सागर में पकड़े अवैध हथियारों के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र अमेरिका ने फिलिस्तीनी नेता यासर अराफात से जवाब मांगा।

2003 उत्तर कोरिया परमाणु अप्रसार संधि से हटा।

2006 प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने 10 जनवरी को प्रति वर्ष विश्व हिंदी दिवस के रूप मनाये जाने की घोषणा की।

2008 भारत की कार निर्माण की अग्रणी आटोमोबाइल कंपनी टाटा मोटर्स ने एक लाख रुपये वाली कार नैनो प्रस्तुत की। विशेष रेल परियोजनाओं के लिए भूमि अधिग्रहण के मामले में रेल कानून, 1989 में संधोधन करने वाले प्रस्ताव को मंजूरी दी। इसी दिन इक्वाडोर का तुगंराहो ज्वालामुखी भयानक रूप से फटने के कगार पर पहुँचा।

2009 अशोक कजारिया पीएचडी चैंबर आफ कामर्स एंड इंडस्ट्री का वरिष्ठ उपाध्यक्ष पद पर आसीन हुए।

2010 चीन दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा निर्यातक देश बना। इसने जर्मनी को पीछे छोड़ दिया। इसी दिन भारतीय मूल के अमेरिकी खाद्य सुरक्षा विशेषज्ञ राजीव शाह ने अमेरिका के विदेश मंत्रालय के अधीनस्थ संस्था यूएस एजेंसी फॉर इंटरनैशनल डिवेलपमेंट यूएसएआईडी के प्रमुख की जिम्मेदारी संभाली। इसके साथ वह बराक ओबामा प्रशासन में सर्वोच्च पद संभालने वाले भारतीय बन गए।

2011 पोप बेनेडिक्ट सोलहवें ने पाकिस्तान से उस कानून को निरस्त करने का आग्रह किया जिसमें व्यवस्था दी गई थी कि जिन लोगों ने पैगंबर मोहम्मद का अपमान किया उन्हें मृत्यु दंड मिलेगा।

2013 पाकिस्तान में कई बम धमाकों में 100 से अधिक लोगों की मौत 270 से अधिक लोग घायल हुए। इसी दिन 99942 एपोफिस नामक एक क्षुद्रग्रह पृथ्वी के करीब से गुजरा, यूरोपी खगोलविदों का अनुमान है कि पहले की तुलना में 99942 एपोफिस काफी बड़ा है।

2020 सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने जम्मू-कश्मीर प्रशासन से संविधान के अनुच्छेद 370 के अधिकांश प्रावधान खत्म करने के बाद लगाए गए प्रतिबंधों की एक हफ्ते के अंदर समीक्षा करने को कहा। साल का पहला चंद्रग्रहण 10 जनवरी, शुक्रवार को लगा। यह चंद्रग्रहण 10 जनवरी, रात 10 बजकर 39 मिनट से शुरू हुआ तथा 11 जनवरी की प्रातः 02ः40 बजे तक रहा। इसी दिन केंद्र सरकार ने नागरिकता संशोधन एक्ट के लिए एक अधिसूचना जारी की। इस कानून के अनुसार, भारत में 31 दिसंबर, 2014 तक आए हिंदू धर्म, जैन धर्म, पारसी धर्म, सिक्ख धर्म, ईसाई धर्म और बौद्ध धर्म के अल्पसंख्यक भारतीय नागरिकता हासिल कर सकेंगे। इसी दिन ईरान ने घोषणा की कि उसके द्वारा गलती से और अनजाने में एक यूक्रेनी बोइंग 737-800 विमान को निशाया बनाया गया। ईरान ने बयान में कहा कि यह विमान एक संवेदनशील क्षेत्र और सैन्य अड्डे की ओर तेजी से मुड़ा था, जिसके कारण हुई मानव-त्रुटि के चलते यह हादसा हुआ। इसी दिन ओमान के सुल्तान कबूस बिन सैद अल सैद का निधन हो गया। वह 79 वर्ष के थे।

The cartoon character Tintin is the brainchild of Belgian cartoonist Georges Remy. Georgis is also known as Harje. Herge died in 1983 at the age of 76. Even after his death, the popularity of Tintin comics has not diminished. The first Tintin comic book, Tintin in the Land of Soviets, appeared in 1930. To date, Tintin comics have appeared in more than 100 languages. In 1954, Tintin's magazine and comic book featured explorers visiting the moon, 15 years before humans actually set foot on the moon. Man first stepped on the Moon in 1969 and Neil Armstrong became the first person to do so. The world-loved Tintin comics have been translated into over 100 languages and sold over 350 million copies. The special thing is that in the comics of Georges, Tintin solves mysteries by visiting different countries of the world, the interesting thing is that Georges has never been to the countries where Tintin goes in the comics.
