1873 विकीपीडिया के मुताबिक इलाहाबाद में उच्च शिक्षा के लिए मूर सेंट्रल कॉलेज की आधारशिला भारत में ब्रिटिश अधिकारी विलियम मूर ने रखी। इसका डिजाइन ब्रिटिश आर्किटेक्ट विलियम एमर्सन ने तैयार किया। यह काॅलेज अब इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय का हिस्सा है।

1889 असम में कांग्रेस के संस्थापकों में प्रमुख राजनेता चन्द्रनाथ शर्मा का जन्म हुआ।

1898 रामकृष्ण मिशन के बेलूर मठ की स्थापना बेलूर, हावड़ा, पश्चिम बंगाल में स्वामी विवेकानंद ने की।

1905 चर्च और राज्य को अलग करने के लिए फ्रांस में कानून पास हुआ। पहले धार्मिक संस्था शासन पर हावी रहती थी।

1942 द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध में चीन में स्वयं सेवक की भूमिका निभाने वाले भारतीय चिकित्सक द्वारकानाथ कोटनीस का निधन हुआ।

1945 जाने माने बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेता और राजनेता शत्रुघ्न सिन्हा का जन्म हुआ।

1946 संविधान सभा की पहली बैठक नयी दिल्ली के कांस्टीट्यूनल हॉल में हुई।

1946 दुनिया की प्रमुख महिलाओं में शुमार और लंबे समय तक भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस की अध्यक्ष रहीं, कांग्रेसनीत गठबंधन संयुक्त प्रगतिशील गठबंधन की मुखिया सोनिया गांधी का जन्म 9 दिसंबर 1946 को इटली के लुसियाना में हुआ था। एंटोनिया माइनो उनका वास्तविक नाम था। सोनिया अपनी प्रारंभिक शिक्षा पूरी करने के बाद उच्च शिक्षा के लिए ब्रिटेन स्थित कैम्ब्रिज पहुंचीं। यहां 1965 में उनकी मुलाकात भारत के प्रथम प्रधानमंत्री पं. जवाहर लाल नेहरू की बेटी और दामाद फिरोज गांधी के पुत्र राजीव गांधी से हुई और फिर दोनों ने 1968 में शादी कर ली। 21 मई 1991 को तमिलनाडु के श्रीपेरुंबुदूर में एक जनसभा के दौरान श्रीलंका के चरमपंथी संगठन लिबरेशन टाइगर्स आॅफ तमिल इलम यानी लिट्टे के आत्मघाती दस्ते ने बम विस्फोट कर राजीव गांधी की हत्या कर दी। पति राजीव की हत्या के 7 साल बाद 1998 में सोनिया ने कांग्रेस के अध्यक्ष की कुर्सी संभाली। वह 1999 में पहली बार उत्तर प्रदेश के अमेठी से लोकसभा सांसद चुनी गईं। 2019 लोकसभा चुनाव में रायबरेली, सोनिया गांधी ने चुनाव जीता। अब कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे हैं। जो पिछले दिनों कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष के चुनाव में विजयी हुए हैं। 

1947 फ्रांसीसी मजदूर संघ ने हड़ताल समाप्त कर सरकार से बात शुरु की।

1965 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी लेखक चार्ल्स शुलज की लोकप्रिय कॉमिक स्ट्रिप मूंगफली का रूपांतरण चार्ली ब्राउन क्रिसमस पहली बार टेलीविजन पर प्रसारित किया गया।

1968 बीसवीं सदी के अंतिम 20 वर्षों की बाॅलीवुड की खूबसूरत, बोल्ड जानी मानी फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल फराह नाज़ हाशमी का जन्म हैदराबाद में हुआ। पहले ये विंदू दारा सिंह और बाद में सुमित सहगल की पत्नी भी रहीं।

1971 लिबरेशन वॉर के दौरान भारतीय सेना ने हवाई अभियान मेघना हेली ब्रिज छेड़ा था। 1971 में ही इस दिन भारतीय नौसेना के जांबाज अफसरों में एक महेन्द्रनाथ मुल्ला का निधन हुआ।

1972 फ्रांस के टेनिस खिलाड़ी फेब्रिस सांतारो का जन्म हुआ।

1975 हिंदी, पंजाबी, भोजपुरी और दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्मों की खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, जानी मानी अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल प्रिया गिल का जन्म हुआ और इसी दिन जाने माने बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेता एवं माॅडल डिनो मोरिया का जन्म बंगलौर में हुआ। इसी दिन मद्रास में जन्म हुआ तिशानी दोशी का। तिशानी जानी मानी, वैश्विक पहचान रखने वाली पत्रकार, नर्तकी, अंग्रेजी कवियत्रि और लेखिका हैं।

1979 विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन ने चेचक के वैश्विक उन्मूलन की घोषणा की।

1980 भारतीय जनता पार्टी के प्रमुख नेता रहे प्रमोद महाजन की बेटी भाजपा नेत्री और लोकसभा सदस्य पूनम महाजन का जन्म बंबई में हुआ। महाराष्ट्र के प्रमुख कांग्रेस नेता और केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री हुए सुशील कुमार शिंदे की बेटी कांग्रेस नेत्री और विधायक प्रनीति शिंदे का जन्म शोलापुर में हुआ।

1981 जानी-मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री, माॅडल, सामाजिक कार्यकत्री, निर्माता मिस एशिया पेसिफिक इंटरनेशनल दीया मिर्जा राखी का हैदराबाद आंध्र प्रदेश में जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन 1981 में दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्मों की खूबसूरत, अत्यंत बोल्ड अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल कीर्ति चावला का जन्म हुआ।

1983 नेताजी सुभाष चंद्र बोस की फौज के सेनाधिकारी शहनवाज खान का निधन हुआ।

1985 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, जानी मानी टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री प्रिया वाल का जन्म अजमेर, राजस्थान में हुआ।

1992 ब्रिटिश राजघराने के प्रिंस चार्ल्स और उनकी पत्नी प्रिंसेस डायना ने अलग होने की औपचारिक रूप से घोषणा की। बीती सदी सबसे चर्चित शाही जोड़ियों में से एक ब्रिटेन के शाही परिवार के प्रिंस चार्ल्स और प्रिंसेस डायना के तलाक का ऐलान 9 दिसंबर 1992 को हुआ। इसकी घोषणा खुद तत्कालीन ब्रिटिश प्रधानमंत्री जॉन मेजर ने की। तलाक के ऐलान के करीब चार साल बाद 28 अगस्त 1996 को चार्ल्स-डायना का औपचारिक तौर पर तलाक हुआ था। चार्ल्स और डायना के तलाक की तरह उनकी सगाई और शादी की भी पूरी दुनिया में चर्चा में रही थी। प्रिंसेस डायना और प्रिंस चार्ल्स की सगाई 24 फरवरी 1981 को हुई थी। शादी के वक्त डायना 20 साल की थीं। प्रिंस चार्ल्स और डायना की शादी की चर्चा पूरी दुनिया में थी। विवाह समारोह को टीवी पर दुनियाभर में 1 अरब से ज्यादा लोगों ने देखा था। उनकी शादी को देखने के लिए ब्रिटेन में कैथेड्रल से लेकर बर्मिंघम पैलेस के सामने तक 6 लाख लोग जमा हो गए। शादी के एक साल के भीतर 21 जून 1982 को प्रिंस-चार्ल्स की पहली संतान प्रिंस विलियम्स का जन्म हुआ था। 15 सितंबर 1984 को प्रिंस-चार्ल्स के दूसरे बेटे का जन्म हुआ था। प्रिंस विलियम्स के इस छोटे बच्चे का नाम रखा गया हेनरी, बाद में उन्हें प्रिंस हैरी के नाम से जाना जाने लगा। शाही जोड़ी के रिश्ते शादी के कुछ सालों बाद ही खराब होने लगे थे। 1992 में भारत दौरे पर आईं प्रिंसेस डायना ने ताजमहल के सामने अकेले बैठकर तस्वीर खिंचवाई थी। तलाक के ऐलान के चार साल बाद 28 अगस्त 1996 को दोनों का तलाक हो गया। तलाक के एक साल बाद 31 अगस्त 1997 को एक सड़क हादसे में डायना की मौत हो गई। जबकि, अप्रैल 2005 में प्रिंस चार्ल्स ने कैमिला पार्कर से शादी कर ली। महारानी एलिजाबेथ द्वितीय के देहावसान के बाद अब प्रिंस चार्ल्स ब्रिटेन के राजा हैं।

1997 विख्यात कन्नड़ साहित्यकार के शिवराम कारंत का निधन हुआ।

1998 आस्ट्रेलियाई क्रिकेट खिलाड़ियों शेन वार्न और मार्क वॉ ने एक भारतीय सट्टेबाज से 1994 में श्रीलंका दौरे पर रिश्वत लेने की बात स्वीकारी।

2000 दक्षिण कोरिया का दर्जा विकासशील देश से बढ़ाकर विकसित देश किया गया।

2001 यूनाइटेड नेशनल पार्टी के नेता रानिल विक्रमसिंघे ने श्रीलंका के प्रधानमंत्री पद की शपथ ली। 2001 में इसी दिन अफगानिस्तान में नार्दन एलांयस का विमान दुर्घटनाग्रस्त,21 मरे।

2006 पाकिस्तान ने परमाणु क्षमता युक्त मध्यम दूरी के प्रक्षेपास्त्र हत्फ-3 गजनवी का परीक्षण किया।

2007 पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री बेनजीर भुट्टो ने पाकिस्तानी सरकार के साथ अपने सभी संबंध समाप्त करने की घोषणा की। इसी दिन 2007 में प्रगतिशील काव्यधारा के प्रसिद्ध कवि त्रिलोचन शास्त्री का निधन हुआ।

2008 इसरो ने यूरोप के प्रसिद्ध उपग्रह प्रणाली विशेषज्ञ ईएडीएम एस्ट्रीयस के लिए सेटेलाइट का निर्माण किया।

2009 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय तबला वादक उस्ताद हनीफ मोहम्मद खाँ का निधन हुआ।

2011 आग की लपटों और जहरीले धुएं से घिरे कोलकाता के एएमआरआई (आमरी) अस्पताल में रम्या राजन और पी.के. विनीथा ने मानवता और बहादुरी की अतुलनीय मिसाल पेश की। अपनी जान की परवाह न करते हुए दोनों ने आठ मरीजों को सुरक्षित निकाल लिया, पर एक अन्य मरीज को बचाने के प्रयास में उनकी मौत हो गई।

2012 मेक्सिको में विमान दुर्घटनाग्रस्त होने से सात लोगों की मौत हुई। इसी दिन चीन की पुलिस ने ने एक तिब्बती भिक्षु को गिरफ्तार किया जिस पर चीनी शासन के खिलाफ आमरण अनशन करने का आरोप था।

2013 इंडोनेशिया में बिनटारो के समीप ट्रेन हादसे में सात की मौत और 63 घायल हुए।

2014 दक्षिण फिलीपींस के बुकिडॉन प्रांत में एक यात्री बस में हुए बम विस्फोट से 11 लोग मारे गये और करीब 21 लोग घायल हुए।
