537 तुर्की के प्रमुख वाणिज्यिक नगर इस्तांबुल में वर्ष 2020 में जिस इमारत को राष्ट्रपति रिचैप तय्यप एर्दोआन ने हागिया सोफिया मस्जिद के रूप में तब्दील करवा दिया, उसे मूल रूप से एक चर्च के तौर पर 537 में बनाया गया इतिहास में उल्लेखित है। आॅटोमन साम्राज्य के दौरान रोमन सम्राट जस्टिनियन के शासन के दौरान यह यूनानी आॅर्थोडाॅक्स चर्च द्वारा निर्मित कैथेड्रल है। 1453 में भी इसे मस्जिद में बदला गया था लेकिन फिर 1935 में एक संग्रहालय में बदल दिया गया था।

1571 जर्मनी के गणितज्ञ और खगोलशास्त्री यूहान केपलर का जन्म हुआ।

1797 आगरा में उर्दू-फारसी के शीर्ष शायर मिर्जा गालिब यानी मिर्जा बेग असदुल्ला खां का जन्म हुआ। उनके बारे में शेर है, यूं तो हैं दुनिया में सुखनवर बहुत अच्छे, कहते हैं कि गालिब का है अंदाज-ए-बयां और। 

1822 फ्रांस के चिकित्सक और रसायनशास्त्री लुईस पास्चर का जन्म हुआ।

1825 स्टीम इंजन वाले पहले पब्लिक रेलवे पथ का निर्माण इंग्लैंड के स्टॉकटन और डार्लिंगटन के बीच पूरा हुआ।

1846 त्रावणकोर, केरल के महाराजा तथा दक्षिण भारतीय कर्नाटक संगीत परंपरा के सर्वोत्कृष्ट संगीतज्ञों में से एक स्वाति तिरुनल का निधन हुआ।

1861 कलकत्ता में पहली बार चाय की सार्वजनिक बोली संपन्न हुई।

1895 पंजाब के प्रमुख सिक्ख कार्यकर्ता उज्जवल सिंह का जन्म हुआ।

1898 स्वतंत्रता के बाद पहली निर्वाचित सरकार में कृषि मंत्री हुए किसान नेता पंजाबराव देशमुख का जन्म अमरावती महाराष्ट्र में हुआ।

1911 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के कलकत्ता अधिवेशन के दौरान पहली बार जन गण मन गाया गया। यह बाद में भारत का राष्ट्रगान बना। गुरुदेव रविंद्रनाथ ठाकुर ने इसे लिखा था।

1919 जाने माने भारतीय इतिहासकार, खोजी, पांडुलिपि संग्रहकर्ता, केरल गणित संप्रदाय एवं ज्योतिष पर विशेष शोधकर्ता और लेखक केवी वेंकटेश्वर शर्मा का जन्म चेंगानूर में हुआ।

1923 टोक्यो में जापान के युवराज एक हत्या के प्रयास में सुरक्षित बच गए। फ्रांसीसी इंजीनियर और आर्किटेक्ट गुस्ताव एफिल का 1923 में निधन हुआ।

1927 उत्तर प्रदेश विधान सभा के अध्यक्ष रहे और उत्तराखंड के पहले मुख्यमंत्री नित्यानंद स्वामी का जन्म हुआ।

1934 पर्सिया के शाह ने पर्सिया का नाम बदलकर ईरान करने की घोषणा की।

1939 तुर्की में आये भूकंप से लगभग चालीस हजार लोगों की मौत हुई।

1945 भारत के जाने माने शास्त्रीय संगीतज्ञ क्लारेंस बारलोव का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ। इसी दिन वैश्विक अर्थव्यवस्था को मजबूती प्रदान करने के लिए विश्व बैंक की स्थापना की गई। 1945 में इसी दिन द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध की समाप्ति के पश्चात मास्को के एतिहासिक समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर हुए। जिसके आधार पर कोरिया प्रायद्वीप जो एक देश समझा जाता था दो भागों में विभाजित हो गया। इसी दिन 1945 में उन्तीस देशों ने मिलकर अंतरराष्ट्रीय मुद्रा कोष की स्थापना हुई। इस संस्था का उद्देश्य विदेशी मुद्रा के मूल्यों को स्थिर रखना, वाणिज्य विकास और प्रगति को सुचारू बनाना आदि है।

1949 नीदरलैंड ने आधिकारिक रूप से इंडोनेशिया की स्वतंत्रता को स्वीकार किया।

1950 विख्यात भारतीय सांख्यिकी भौतिक विज्ञानी पद्मश्री मुस्तांसिर बरमा का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1960 फ्रांस ने अफ्रीका के सहारा रेगिस्तान में तीसरा परमाणु परीक्षण किया

1961 बेल्जियम और कांगो के बीच राजनयिक संबंध बहाल हुए।

1965 प्रख्यात बॉलीवुड अभिनेता और प्रमुख फिल्म, टेलीविजन, रियलिटी शो, मनोरंजन कारोबारी सलमान खान का इंदौर में जन्म हुआ। यह जाने माने अभिनेता सलीम खान के बेटे हैं।

1966 दुनिया की सबसे लंबी गुफा केव आॅफ स्वैलोज की खोज एक्विसमोन, मैक्सिको में की गई।

1968 चंद्रमा की परिक्रमा करने वाला पहला मानव मिशन अपोलो-8 प्रशांत महासागर में उतरा।

1970 पाकिस्तान में प्रमुख भारतीय अंग्रेजी अखबार द हिंदू की संवाददाता रहीं पत्रकार, हिंदी अंग्रेजी फिल्म वाॅयस आर्टिस्ट, स्वतंत्र पत्रकार, लेखिका मीना मेनन का जन्म हुआ।

1972 उत्तरी कोरिया में नया संविधान प्रभाव में आया।

1973 जाने माने भारतीय अमेरिकी गणितज्ञ और गणित के प्रोफेसर कन्नन सौंदर्यराजन का जन्म चेन्नई में हुआ। 

1975 झारखंड के धनबाद जिले स्थित चासनाला में हुए कोयला खदान दुर्घटना में 372 लोगों की मौत।

1978 राष्ट्रीय लोक दल आरएलडी के वर्तमान अध्यक्ष जयंत चौधरी का डलास, टेक्सास, अमेरिका में जन्म हुआ। जयंत पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री स्व. चौ. चरण सिंह के पोते और पूर्व केंद्रीय मंत्री स्व. अजीत सिंह के पुत्र हैं।

1979 अफगानिस्तान ने राजनीतिक परिवर्तन एवं हफीजुल्लाह अमीन की सैनिक क्रांति में हत्या। सोवियत संघ के संरक्षण में विरोधी गुट सत्ता पर काबिज।

1985 असम में जन्मी पांची बोरा खूबसूरत, बोल्ड और टेलीविजन की जानी मानी अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल हैं। उन्होंने कयामत और कितनी मस्त है जिंदगी धारावाहिकों सहित कई फिल्मों में भी काम किया है। इसी दिन 1985 यूरोप के विएना और रोम हवाई अड्डों पर चरमपंथियों के हमले में 16 लोग मारे गए और सौ से ज्यादा घायल हुए।

1988 जाने माने भारतीय संगीतकार जेसिन जाॅर्ज का जन्म कोच्चि में हुआ।

1991 मिस एशिया पेसिफिक, माॅडल और अभिनेत्री आकांक्षा धीमान का जन्म शिमला में हुआ।

1996 जाने माने निशानेबाज कुंवर दिव्य प्रताप सिंह का जन्म देहरादून में हुआ।

2000 आस्ट्रेलिया में विवाह पूर्व यौन संबंधों को कानूनी मान्यता दी गई।

2001 भारत-पाक युद्ध रोकने के लिए संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका व रूस सक्रियय लश्कर-ए-तोएबा ने अब्दुल वाहिद कश्मीरी को अपना नया प्रमुख नियुक्त किया। 2001 में इसी दिन संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने पाक आतंकवादी संगठन उम्मा-ए-तामीर ए बो के खाते सील करने के आदेश दिये।

2002 ईव नाम के पहले मानव क्लोन ने संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में जन्म लिया।

2004 भारत ने तीसरे और अन्तिम वनडे में बांग्लादेश को हराकर श्रंखला 2-1 से जीती।

2007 पाकिस्तान के पूर्व प्रधान मंत्री बेनजीर भुट्टो की हत्या तब की गई जब वह पाकिस्तान के रावलपिंडी के लियाकत नेशनल बाग में पाकिस्तान पीपल्स पार्टी समर्थकों की राजनीतिक रैली को संबोधित कर लौट रही थीं।

2008 वी. शान्ताराम पुरस्कार समारोह में आमिर खान की तारे जमीं पर फिल्म को सर्वश्रेष्ठ फिल्म का पुरस्कार मिला।

2012 पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री बेनजीर भुट्टो के पुत्र बिलावल भुट्टो जरदारी ने अपने प्रथम राजनीतिक वक्तव्य में, अपनी मां की मृत्यु की पांचवीं सालगिरह पर पाकिस्तान में लोकतंत्र को बनाए रखने और उग्रवाद से लड़ने का संकल्प दोहराया।

537 The building which was converted into the Hagia Sophia Mosque by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the year 2020 in Istanbul, Turkey's main commercial city, is mentioned in history as originally built in 537 as a church. It is a cathedral built by the Greek Orthodox Church during the rule of the Roman Emperor Justinian during the Ottoman Empire. It was also converted into a mosque in 1453 but was then converted into a museum in 1935.

1571 German mathematician and astronomer Johann Kepler was born.

1797 Urdu-Persian top poet Mirza Ghalib i.e. Mirza Beg Asadullah Khan was born in Agra. There is a lion about him, Sukhnavar is very good in the world, it is said that Ghalib's style is different.

1822 Louis Pasteur, French physician and chemist, was born.

1825 The first public railway with a steam engine is completed between Stockton and Darlington, England.

1846 Swati Tirunal, Maharaja of Travancore, Kerala and one of the foremost musicians of the South Indian Carnatic music tradition, died.

1861 The first public auction of tea was held in Calcutta.

1895 Ujjwal Singh, prominent Sikh activist of Punjab, was born.

1898 Punjabrao Deshmukh, a farmer leader who became Agriculture Minister in the first elected government after independence, was born in Amravati, Maharashtra.

Jana Gana Mana was sung for the first time during the 1911 Calcutta session of the Indian National Congress. It later became the national anthem of India. It was written by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

1919 KV Venkateswara Sharma, noted Indian historian, explorer, manuscript collector, special researcher and writer on Kerala math school and astrology, was born in Chengannur.

1923 The Crown Prince of Japan narrowly escapes an assassination attempt in Tokyo. French engineer and architect Gustave Eiffel died in 1923.

1927: Speaker of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly and first Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Nityanand Swami was born.

1934 The Shah of Persia announced the change of name of Persia to Iran.

The 1939 earthquake in Turkey killed about forty thousand people.

1945 Clarence Barlow, Indian classical musician, was born in Calcutta. On this day, the World Bank was established to strengthen the global economy. On this day in 1945, the historic Treaty of Moscow was signed after the end of World War II. On the basis of which the Korea Peninsula which was considered as one country was divided into two parts. On this day in 1945, 29 countries together established the International Monetary Fund. The objective of this institution is to stabilize the value of foreign exchange, to make commerce development and progress smooth, etc.

1949 The Netherlands officially recognizes the independence of Indonesia.

1950 Padmashree Mustansir Barma, noted Indian statistical physicist, was born in Bombay.

1960 France conducts third nuclear test in Sahara desert of Africa

1961 Diplomatic relations between Belgium and the Congo are restored.

1965 Salman Khan, noted Bollywood actor and prominent film, television, reality show, entertainment businessman, was born in Indore. He is the son of well-known actor Salim Khan.

1966 The world's longest cave, the Cave of Swallows, is discovered in Aquisamón, Mexico.

1968 Apollo 8, the first manned mission to orbit the Moon, landed in the Pacific Ocean.

1970 Journalist, Hindi-English film voice artist, independent journalist, writer Meena Menon, correspondent of the leading Indian English newspaper The Hindu in Pakistan, was born.

1972 The new constitution came into effect in North Korea.

1973 Kannan Soundararajan, noted Indian American mathematician and professor of mathematics, was born in Chennai.

1975: 372 people died in a coal mine accident at Chasnala in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand.

1978 Jayant Chowdhary, current President of Rashtriya Lok Dal RLD, was born in Dallas, Texas, USA. Jayant former Prime Minister Late. Ch. Grandson of Charan Singh and former Union Minister Late. Son of Ajit Singh.

1979 Political change in Afghanistan and assassination of Hafizullah Amin in military revolution. The opposition faction held power under the protection of the Soviet Union.

Panchi Bora, born in 1985 in Assam, is a beautiful, bold and well-known television actress and model. He has also worked in several films including the serials Qayamat and Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi. On the same day in 1985, 16 people were killed and more than a hundred were injured in attacks by extremists at the Vienna and Rome airports in Europe.

1988 Jessin George, noted Indian musician, was born in Kochi.

1991 Miss Asia Pacific, model and actress Akanksha Dhiman was born in Shimla.

1996 Renowned shooter Kunwar Divya Pratap Singh was born in Dehradun.

In 2000, premarital sex was legalized in Australia.

2001 United States and Russia operative Lashkar-e-Taiba appoints Abdul Wahid Kashmiri as its new chief to prevent Indo-Pak war. On this day in 2001, the United Nations gave orders to seal the accounts of Pak terrorist organization Umma-e-Tamir-e-Bo.

2002 The first human clone, named Eve, is born in the United States.

2004 India beat Bangladesh in the third and final ODI to win the series 2–1.

2007 Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto is assassinated while she was returning from addressing a political rally of Pakistan Peoples Party supporters at Liaquat National Bagh in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

Aamir Khan's Taare Zameen Par won the Best Film Award at the 2008 V. Shantaram Awards ceremony.

2012 In his first political statement, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, son of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, reiterated his resolve to uphold democracy and fight extremism in Pakistan on the fifth anniversary of his mother's death.
