1914 बाबा आम्टे के नाम से प्रसिद्ध सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता और कुष्ठ रोगियों की सेवा करने वाले मुरलीधर देवदास आम्टे का हिंगनघाट महाराष्ट्र में जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन ब्रिटिश और जर्मन सैनिकों ने क्रिसमस मनाने के लिए प्रथम विश्व युद्ध को बाधित किया, जिससे क्रिसमस की शुरुआत हुई। इसी दिन दिल्ली में शेख मुख्तार का जन्म हुआ। रेलवे पुलिस इंस्पेक्टर की नौकरी के बाद यह बाॅलीवुड फिल्मों के जाने माने फिल्म अभिनेता हुए।

1922 विश्व प्रसिद्ध, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अमेरिकी फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल आवा गार्डनर का ग्रेबटाउन, उत्तरी कैरोलीना, अमेरिका में जन्म हुआ।

1924 भारतीय सिनेमा के सबसे प्रमुख गायक और भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप के सर्वाधिक लोकप्रिय गायक मोहम्मद रफी का जन्म 24 दिसंबर 1924 को पंजाब के गांव कोटला सुल्तान सिंह, अमृतसर में हुआ। रफी बहुमुखी गायन प्रतिभा के धनी थे। मोहम्मद रफी ने देशभक्ति गीतों से लेकर बेहद रोमांटिक, दर्द भरे गीत, और कव्वालियों से लेकर गजल और भजनों से लेकर भारतीय शास्त्रीय गीतों तक हर तरह के गाने गाए। रफी को चार बार फिल्मफेयर अवॉर्ड और एक बार राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार मिला। 1976 में उन्हें पद्मश्री से सम्मानित किया गया। 2001 में स्टारडस्ट मैग्जीन ने रफी को सहस्त्राब्दी का सर्वश्रेष्ठ सिंगर चुना। 2013 में रफी को सीएएन-आईबीएन के पोल में हिंदी सिनेमा की सर्वश्रेष्ठ आवाज चुना गया। मोहम्मद रफी ने न केवल हिंदी, उर्दू और पंजाबी में गाने गाए, बल्कि उन्होंने कई भारतीय भाषाओं और बोलियों में भी गीत गाए, जिनमें-कोंकणी, असमिया, भोजपुरी, उड़िया, बंगाली, मराठी, सिंधी, कन्नड़, गुजराती, तमिल, तेलुगु, मगही, मैथिली शामिल हैं। अपने सिंगिंग कैरियर में रफी ने एक हजार से ज्यादा हिंदी गाने गाए। मोहम्मद रफी का 55 वर्ष की उम्र में बंबई में 31 जुलाई 1980 को निधन हो गया था। रफी के कद्रदान आज भी उन्हें भारत रत्न सम्मान दिए जाने की मांग करते हैं। 1924 में इसी दिन स्वतंत्रता सेनानी एवं महादेव देसाई के पुत्र नारायण भाई देसाई का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन 1924 में क्रोयडोन लंदन की एयर फील्ड में हुई विमान दुर्घटना में 8 लोगों की मृत्यु हो गई। अल्बानिया इसी दिन गणतंत्र बना।

1930 प्रतिष्ठित हिंदी पत्रकार, शिक्षिका एवं साहित्यकार उषा प्रियंवदा का कानपुर में जन्म हुआ।

1932 दक्षिण भारत के ऊटी में इंग्लैंड के मशहूर क्रिकेटर माइकल काॅलिन काउड्रे का जन्म हुआ।

1936 पहली बार जॉन लॉरेन्स ने रेडियोएक्टिव आईसोटोप दवाई का प्रयोग मरीज पर किया।

1944 रोमन कैथोलिक चर्च के प्रसिद्ध भारतीय कार्डिनल ओस्वाल्ड ग्रेसियस का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1956 बंबई के चेंबूर में जाने-माने भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेता एवं निर्माता अनिल कपूर का जन्म हुआ। फिल्मी परिवार में जन्मे अनिल कपूर ने वो सात दिन, मशाल, मेरी जंग, बेटा, कर्मा, 1942 ए लव स्टोरी जैसी फिल्में की हैं। अनिल अभी भी फिल्मों में सक्रिय हैं। उनकी बेटी सोनम कपूर भी एक्ट्रेस हैं।

1957 अफगानिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति हामिद करजई का जन्म हुआ।

1962 जानी मानी बाॅलीवुड फिल्म एक्ट्रेस प्रीति सप्रू का जन्म हुआ। 13 साल की उम्र में एक्टिंग शुरु करने वाली प्रीति ने लावारिस, नजराना, अवतार, निम्मो, आज का अर्जुन जैसी फिल्मों में काम किया है।

1967 चीन ने लोप नोर क्षेत्र में परमाणु परीक्षण किया।

1967 बिहार के प्रमुख राजनेता पप्पू यादव का जन्म हुआ। उनका वास्तविक नाम राजेश रंजन है।

1968 प्रथम बार मनुष्य ने अपोलो-8 के जरिए चांद की कक्षा में प्रवेश किया। चंद्रमा की कक्षा में पहुंचने वाला पहला मानवयुक्त नासा का अपोलो-8 मिशन 21 दिसंबर 1968 को शुरू हुआ था और 27 दिसंबर को पूरा हुआ था। अपोलो-8 के क्रू में फ्रैंक बोरमैन, जिम लॉवेल और बिल एंडर्स शामिल थे। अपोलो-8 ने क्रिसमस की संध्या पर यानी 24 दिसंबर को चंद्रमा के ऑर्बिट में प्रवेश के साथ ही नया इतिहास रच दिया। इसके साथ ही इंसान ने पहली बार चंद्रमा की कक्षा में प्रवेश कर लिया। इस मिशन ने चांद की कक्षा से सीधा प्रसारण किया। इन अंतरिक्ष यात्रियों ने अपने अंतरिक्ष यान के अंदर से चांद और पृथ्वी की तस्वीरें भेजीं। विलियम एंडर्स की खींची वास्तविक तस्वीरों के कारण ये मिशन दुनियाभर में चर्चित हुआ। इसके एक साल बाद अपोलो सीरीज के ही एक मिशन, अपोलो-11 के जरिए इंसान पहली बार चांद पर उतरा। 20 जुलाई 1969 को नील आर्मस्ट्रॉन्ग चांद पर कदम रखने वाले पहले इंसान बने।

1973 अमेरिका की यूनाइटेड स्टेट्स कांग्रेस ने वाशिंगटन, डीसी के गृह शासन को मंजूरी दे दी, जिससे निवासियों को अपने मेयर और नगर परिषद का चुनाव करने की व्यवस्था मिली।

1973 तमिलनाडु के वेल्लोर ई.वी. रामास्वामी नायकर का निधन हुआ।

1979 सोवियत संघ ने अफगानिस्तान में प्रवेश किया।

1981 उड़ीसा के जाने माने फिल्म अभिनेता, निर्माता और सत्तारूढ़ बीजू जनता दल के राज्य सभा सदस्य अभिनव मोहंती का जन्म कटक में हुआ।

1986 वहाई संप्रदाय के दिल्ली स्थित प्रसिद्ध लोटस मंदिर को श्रद्धालुओं और पर्यटकों के लिए खोला गया था।

1986 संसद द्वारा उपभोक्ता संरक्षण अधिनियम पारित किया गया। इसलिए भारत में 24 दिसंबर को राष्ट्रिय उपभोक्ता दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है।

1987 तमिल सिनेमा पर तीन दशक तक राज करने वाले और भारत रत्न सम्मान प्राप्त मरुथुर गोपालन रामचंद्रन यानी एमजी रामचंद्रन का निधन हुआ। एमजीआर नाम से चिर-परिचित रामचंद्रन ने 100 से अधिक फिल्मों में काम किया। संयोग से इनमें से 28 फिल्मों में जयललिता उनकी हिरोइन थीं, जो आगे चलकर न केवल फिल्मी बल्कि राजनीतिक करियर में भी उनकी सबसे करीबी सहयोगी बनीं। फिल्मों से राजनीति में आने पर बाद एमजीआर कांग्रेस से जुड़ गए। 1953 तक कांग्रेस के साथ रहे। बाद में करुणानिधि के कहने पर उन्होंने उनकी पार्टी डीएमके ज्वाइन कर ली। पर करुणानिधि से मनमुटाव के चलते उन्होंने ऑल इंडिया अन्ना द्रविड़ मुन्नेत्र कड़गम एआईएडीएमके नाम से अपनी एक अलग पार्टी बनाई। एआईएडीएमके ने विधानसभा चुनावों में जीत दर्ज की और एमजीआर 30 जुलाई 1977 को तमिलनाडु के मुख्यमंत्री बने। एमजीआर मुख्यमंत्री बनने वाले देश के पहले ऐक्टर थे। 24 दिसंबर 1987 को अपने निधन तक वो इस पद पर रहे। 1988 में एमजीआर को मरणोपरांत भारत रत्न से सम्मानित किया गया।

1988 कोलकाता नाइट राइडर के प्रसिद्ध क्रिकेटर पीयूष चावला का अलीगढ़ यूपी में जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन प्रतिष्ठित, प्रसिद्ध हिदी मनोवैज्ञानिक कथाकार और उपन्यासकार जैनेन्द्र कुमार का निधन हुआ।

1989 जाने माने भारतीय स्टेंडअप काॅमेडियन और यूट्यूबर कानन गिल का जन्म बंगलौर में हुआ। इसी दिन भारत का पहला अम्यूजमेंट पार्क एसेल वर्ल्ड महाराष्ट्र की राजधानी बंबई में खोला गया।

1991 हिंदी, तमिल, तेलुगू और कन्नड़ आदि भाषाओं की जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल अक्षरा गौड़ा का जन्म बंगलौर में हुआ।

1996 ताजिकिस्तान में गृहयुद्ध को समाप्त करने के लिए समझौता सम्पन्न।

2003 अमेरिकी विदेश विभाग ने 30 जून, 2004 को इराक में सत्ता सौंपने की तैयारी शुरू की।

2005 यूरोपीय संघ ने खालिस्तान जिंदाबाद फोर्स नामक संगठन को आतंकी सूची में शामिल किया।

2006 शिखर बैठक में फिलिस्तीन को इस्रायल कई सुविधाएँ देने के लिए तैयार हुआ।

Mohammed Rafi sang all kinds of songs ranging from patriotic songs to highly romantic, soulful songs, and from qawwalis to ghazals and bhajans to Indian classical songs. Rafi received the Filmfare Award four times and the National Award once. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1976. In 2001, Stardust magazine selected Rafi as the best singer of the millennium. In 2013, Rafi was voted the Best Voice of Hindi Cinema in a CAN-IBN poll. 1967 Pappu Yadav, prominent Bihar politician, was born. His real name is Rajesh Ranjan.

1968 For the first time man entered the moon's orbit through Apollo-8. NASA's Apollo 8 mission, the first manned mission to orbit the Moon, was launched on 21 December 1968 and completed on 27 December. The crew of Apollo 8 included Frank Borman, Jim Lowell, and Bill Anders. Apollo-8 created new history on Christmas Eve i.e. December 24 with the entry into the Moon's orbit. With this man entered the orbit of the Moon for the first time. The mission broadcast live from lunar orbit. These astronauts sent pictures of the Moon and Earth from inside their spacecraft. Due to the real photographs taken by William Anders, this mission became known worldwide. A year after this, man landed on the moon for the first time through Apollo-11, a mission of the Apollo series. On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first man to step on the moon.

1986 The famous Lotus Temple of the Vahai sect in Delhi was opened for devotees and tourists.

1986 Consumer Protection Act was passed by the Parliament. That's why December 24 is celebrated as National Consumer Day in India.

1987 Maruthur Gopalan Ramachandran i.e. MG Ramachandran, who ruled Tamil cinema for three decades and received the Bharat Ratna award, passed away. Popularly known as MGR, Ramachandran acted in more than 100 films. Incidentally, Jayalalithaa was his heroine in 28 of these films, who later became his closest associate not only in film but also in political career. After coming to politics from films, MGR joined Congress. Stayed with Congress till 1953. Later, at the behest of Karunanidhi, he joined his party DMK. But due to estrangement from Karunanidhi, he formed his own separate party named All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). The AIADMK won the assembly elections and MGR became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on 30 July 1977. MGR was the first actor in the country to become the Chief Minister. He remained on this post till his death on 24 December 1987. MGR was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1988.
