1515 विश्व प्रसिद्ध पुर्तगाली गवर्नर अल्फांसो डे अल्बुक्रेक का निधन हुआ।

1598 कोरियाई नौसेना ने जापान को इम्जिन युद्ध में हरा दिया।

1631 इटली के माउंट विसुवियस में ज्वालामुखी विस्फोट से छह गांव तबाह हुए और चार हजार से अधिक लोग मारे गये।

1653 ओलिवर क्रॉमवेल इंग्लैंड के राष्ट्रमंडल के लॉर्ड प्रोटेक्टर बने।

1689 इंग्लैंड की संसद ने बिल ऑफ राइट्स को अपनाया, यह घोषणा करते हुए कि अंग्रेजों के पास कुछ सकारात्मक नागरिक और राजनीतिक अधिकार हैं। उन्होंने जनता को कई अधिकार दिए।

1707 जापान के माउंट फुजी पर्वत में अंतिम बार ज्वालामुखी विस्फोट हुआ।

1733 अमेरिका में ब्रिटिश सरकार के विरुद्ध संग्राम शुरू हुआ, जिसे बोस्टन टी-पार्टी कहा जाता है। अमेरिका पर ब्रिटेन काबिज था और अमेरिकियों ने इससे आजादी के लिए आंदोलन शुरु किया।

1761 सात साल के युद्ध-रूसी बलों ने चार महीने की घेराबंदी के बाद, बाल्टिक तट पर प्रसिया के आखिरी बंदरगाह कोलबर्ग पर कब्जा कर लिया।

1824 उत्तरी नीदरलैंड में प्रसिद्ध ग्रेट नॉर्थ हाॅलैंड नहर यानी कैनाल डे ला होल्लांदे जहाजों और अन्य प्रयोजनों हेतु खोली गई।

1826 बेंजामिन डब्ल्यू एडवर्ड्स ने मैक्सिकन नियंत्रित नॉकोगदोचेस, टेक्सास की यात्रा की और खुद को फ्रेडोनिया गणराज्य का शासक घोषित किया।

1840 मौत के 19 साल बाद फ्रांस के सम्राट नेपोलियन बोनापार्ट का अंतिम संस्कार किया गया।

1854 अमेरिका के फिलाडेल्फिया में पहली बार सड़क की सफाई करने के लिए मशीन का इस्तेमाल किया गया।

1860 टीवी का आविष्कार करने वाले वैज्ञानिकों में से एक पॉवेल नेपको का जन्म हुआ।

1889 ब्रिटिश संसद की अधिकार घोषणा को राजा विलियम तथा रानी मेरी ने स्वीकार कर शासन में जनता के अधिकार को मान्यता दी।

1920 चीन के कान्सू प्रांत में आए भूकंप के कारण 1 लाख से ज्यादा लोगों की मौत हो गई।

1924 निसीम इजेकिल नामक यहूदी मूल के एक अंग्रेजी भाषा के भारतीय लेखक का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ। इनके द्वारा रचित एक कविता संग्रह लैटर डे साम्स के लिये उन्हें 1983 में अंग्रेजी भाषा के साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।

1927 आस्ट्रेलिया के महान् बल्लेबाज सर डान ब्रैडमैन ने न्यूसाउथ वेल्स और दक्षिण ऑस्ट्रेलिया के बीच मैच से अपने प्रथम श्रेणी क्रिकेट की शुरुआत की।

1929 कलकत्ता विद्युत आपूर्ति निगम ने हुगली नदी के भीतर नहर की खुदाई आरंभ की।

1930 अमेरिका के उत्तरी कैरोलिना में 11 बैंक बंद किये गए। यह महामंदी के कारण करना पड़ा। इसी दिन आधुनिक बैंक डकैती के पिता कहे जाने वाले हरमन लेम को क्लिंटन, इंडियाना, अमेरिका में एक डकैती के प्रयास के दौरान गोली मार दी गई।

1937 भारत के विख्यात मुक्केबाज हवा सिंह का जन्म हुआ।

1938 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस पार्टी के जाने माने राजनेता और दिल्ली के उप राज्यपाल रहे तेजेंदर खन्ना का पटना में जन्म हुआ।

1938 जर्मन रसायनशास्त्री ओटो हान ने यूरेनियम के नाभिकीय विखंडन की खोज की।

1945 जापान के दो बार प्रधानमंत्री रहे फूमिमारो कनोए ने युद्ध अपराधों का सामना करने की बजाए आत्महत्या कर ली।

1949 मलयालम, तमिल एवं तेलुगू सिनेमा के प्रमुख प्रोडक्शन डिजायनर, फिल्म कला निर्देश थोता थरानी का जन्म मद्रास में हुआ।

1951 हैदराबाद में सालार जंग संग्रहालय की स्थापना की गई।

1955 इंग्लैंड के व्यस्ततम हीथ्रो हवाई अड्डे का शुभारंभ हुआ।

1958 कोलंबिया की राजधानी बोगोटा में एक गोदाम में लगी भीषण आग में 82 लोगों की मौत।

1959 कर्नाटक के प्रसिद्ध राजनेता, मुख्यमंत्री रहे एचडी कुमारस्वामी का जन्म हुआ।

1959 भारत के प्रधानमंत्री हुए हरदनहल्ली डोड्डेगौड़ा देवगौड़ा के बेटे कर्नाटक के मुख्यमंत्री रहे एच. डी. कुमारस्वामी का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन पश्चिमी पाकिस्तान के लोवाराय दर्रे में भारी बर्फबारी से 48 लोगों की मौत हुई।

1960 अमेरिका के न्यूयार्क शहर में हुए दो विमानों की टक्कर के कारण 136 लोग मारे गए।

1967 बाॅलीवुड सिनेमा में प्रमुख स्वर कलाकार, फिल्मों की डबिंग के विशेषज्ञ मनोज पांडेय का जन्म हुआ।

1969 ब्रिटेन की संसद ने मृत्युदंड पूरी तरह खत्म करने के पक्ष में मतदान किया।

1970 नांदेड़ महाराष्ट्र से लोकसभा सदस्य शिव सेना नेता हेमंत श्रीराम पाटिल का जन्म हुआ।

1971 भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच संघर्ष विराम पर सहमति के बाद बंगलादेश पाकिस्तान से पृथक् होकर स्वतंत्र राष्ट्र बना।

1977 केरल कांग्रेस जेकब के नेता, विधान सभा सदस्य अनूप जेकब का जन्म कोट्टायम में हुआ।

1980 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल स्मिता सिंह का लखनऊ में जन्म हुआ।

1983 जाने माने बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेता एवं माॅडल हर्षवर्धन राणे का जन्म राजामहेंद्रावरम में हुआ।

1985 तमिलनाडु के कलपक्कम में पहले फास्ट ब्रीडर टेस्ट रिएक्टर एफबीटीआर की स्थापना हुई।

1986 जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड विविध भारतीय भाषाओं की फिल्मों की गायिका और सूफी गायिका हर्षदीप कौर का दिल्ली में जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने टेलीविजन अभिनेता और माॅडल विनय राणा या विन राना का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1990 जानी मानी खूबसूरत एवं बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल अंजलि अबरोल का जन्म जम्मू में हुआ।

1993 भारत की सबसे छोटे कद की अभिनेत्री ज्योति आम्गे का जन्म नागपुर में हुआ। लिम्का बुक ऑफ रिकार्डस और गिनीज बुक ऑफ वर्ल्ड रिकार्ड के अनुसार विश्व की सबसे छोटे कद की महिला हैं। 

1993 नयी दिल्ली में सभी के लिए शिक्षा सम्मेलन प्रारम्भ।

1994 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड जानी मानी तमिल, तेलुगू और हिंदी फिल्म अभिनेत्री, माॅडल और मार्शल आर्टिस्ट रितिका सिंह का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ।

1997 एक अध्ययन में बताया गया कि जापानी टेलीविजन सीरीज पोकेमॉन के एक एपिसोड, डेन्यो सेन्शी पोरगॉन ने 685 बच्चों में मिरगी के दौरे को प्रेरित किया।

1999 गोलन पहाड़ी के मुद्दे पर सीरिया-इस्रायल वार्ता विफल।

2002 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय महिला कव्वाल शकीला बानो का निधन हुआ।

2006 नेपाल में अंतरिक्ष संविधान को अंतिम रूप दिया गया और नेपाल नरेश ज्ञानेन्द्र को देश के प्रमुख के पद से हटा दिया गया।

2008 केंद्रीय विश्वविद्यालयों के शिक्षकों के वेतन पुनरीक्षण को गठित चड्ढा समिति की संस्तुतियों को केन्द्र सरकार ने मंजूर किया।

2009 जेम्स कैमरन ने विज्ञान पर आधारित फिल्म अवतार का निर्माण किया। दुनियाभर में इस फिल्म ने 2.7 अरब डॉलर की कमाई की।

2010 तिब्बत की गैलोंगला सुरंग, जो समुद्र की सतह से 3,750 मीटर की ऊंचाई पर बनी है, पूरी हुई जो मेडोग काउंटी को बाहरी दुनिया से जोड़ती है।

2012 दिल्ली में 16 दिसंबर 2012 की रात एक चलती बस में 23 वर्षीय छात्रा के साथ सामूहिक बलात्कार किया गया और इस घटना से गुस्साए लोग सड़कों पर उतर आए। इसे हम बाद में निर्भया बलात्कार कांड के नाम से जानते हैं। 16 दिसंबर, 2012 की रात 6 लोगों ने एक पैरामेडिकल छात्रा से चलती बस में गैंगरेप किया था। इस घटना में हुई निर्दयता की वजह से निर्भया की 29 दिसंबर को सिंगापुर में इलाज के दौरान निर्भया की मौत हो गई थी। इस दुखद घटना के 9 महीने, सितंबर 2013 में निचली अदालत ने 5 दोषियों राम सिंह, पवन, अक्षय, विनय और मुकेश को फांसी की सजा सुनाई थी। ट्रायल के दौरान मुख्य आरोपी राम सिंह ने तिहाड़ जेल में फांसी लगाकर आत्महत्या कर ली थी। एक अन्य आरोपी नाबालिग होने की वजह से 3 साल में सुधार गृह से छूट गया। बाकी बचे 4 आरोपी पवन, अक्षय, विनय और मुकेश को 20 मार्च 2020 को दिल्ली की तिहाड़ जेल में फांसी दी गई।

2013 फिलीपीन्स की राजधानी मनीला में एक बस के पलटने से 18 लोगों की मौैत हो गयी तथा 20 अन्य घायल हो गये।

2014 पाकिस्तान में पेशावर के एक स्कूल में आतंकी संगठन तहरीक ए तालिबान के हमले में 145 लोगों की मौत हुई जिनमें ज्यादातर स्कूली बच्चे थे।

2012 A 23-year-old girl student was gang-raped in a moving bus in Delhi on the night of 16 December 2012 and angry people took to the streets. We later know this as the Nirbhaya rape case. On the night of December 16, 2012, six men gang-raped a paramedical student in a moving bus. Due to the brutality in this incident, Nirbhaya died on December 29 while undergoing treatment in Singapore. Nine months after the tragic incident, in September 2013, the trial court awarded death sentence to five convicts Ram Singh, Pawan, Akshay, Vinay and Mukesh. During the trial, the main accused Ram Singh committed suicide by hanging himself in Tihar Jail. Another accused was released from the reform home in 3 years due to being a minor. The remaining 4 accused Pawan, Akshay, Vinay and Mukesh were hanged on 20 March 2020 in Delhi's Tihar Jail.

2013: 18 people were killed and 20 others were injured when a bus overturned in Manila, the capital of the Philippines.

In 2014, an attack by the terrorist organization Tehreek-e-Taliban on a school in Peshawar in Pakistan killed 145 people, mostly school children.
