1508 वेनिस गणराज्य के खिलाफ एक गठबंधन, पापल स्टेट्स, फ्रांस, आरागॉन और पवित्र रोमन साम्राज्य ने लीग ऑफ कंबराई का गठन किया।

1582 फ्रांस ने ग्रेगोरियन कैलेंडर का इस्तेमाल करना शुरु किया। आज पूरी दुनिया में इसी कैलेंडर को इस्तेमाल किया जाता है।

1679 मुगल शहंशाह औरंगजेब के दरबार के एक प्रभावशाली सामंत यशवंतसिंह का निधन हुआ।

1799 वजन की तौल के लिए मीट्रिक सिस्टम अपनाने वाला फ्रांस दुनिया का पहला देश बना।

1816 डच साम्राज्यवादियों ने सुमात्रा पर दोबारा कब्जा किया।

1868 दुनिया की पहली ट्रैफिक लाइट लंदन में लगाई गई। इसका आविष्कार एक रेलवे सिग्नल इंजीनियर जेपी नाइट ने किया था।

1870 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय इतिहासकार यदुनाथ सरकार का जन्म हुआ।

1878 वर्तमान उत्तर प्रदेश के रामपुर में मोहम्मद अली जौहर का जन्म हुआ जो खिलाफत आंदोलन के प्रमुख नेता, पत्रकार, शिक्षाविद, अनुवादक और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता हुए। इन्हीं के नाम पर सपा नेता आजम खां ने विश्वविद्यालय का निर्माण कराया। इसी दिन 1878 में विख्यात भारतीय विधिविद, लेखक, राजनीतिज्ञ और दार्शनिक चक्रवर्ती राजगोपालाचारी का जन्म हुआ। 1878 में इसी दिन प्रमुख स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, पत्रकार और शिक्षाविद मोहम्मद अली का जन्म हुआ।

1887 आस्ट्रिया, हंगरी, इटली और ब्रिटेन के बीच बाल्कन सैन्य समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये गये।

1888 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी प्रफुल्लचंद चाकी का जन्म हुआ।

1902 तस्मानिया में महिलाओं को वोट देने का अधिकार प्रदान किया गया। इसी दिन 1902 में भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के अध्यक्ष एस. निजलिंगप्पा का जन्म हुआ।

1896 पहला नोबेल पुरस्कार समारोह, अल्फ्रेड नोबेल की मौत की पांचवीं वर्षगांठ पर स्टॉकहोम में आयोजित किया गया। स्वीडिश रसायनज्ञ और उद्योगपति अल्फ्रेडनोबेल की मृत्यु की सालगिरह पर पहले नोबेल पुरस्कार प्रदान किए गए थे।

1903 विख्यात वैज्ञानिक, खोजी और आविष्कारक पियरे क्यूरी और मैरी क्यूरी को भौतिक विज्ञान के लिए नोबेल पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।

1908 पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित भारतीय पुरातत्व वैज्ञानिक हंसमुख धीरजलाल सांकलिया का जन्म हुआ।

1941 जाने माने ब्रिटिश गायक, संगीतज्ञ और गीतकार पीटर अर्डली सर्सटड्ट का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1947 सोवियत संघ और चेकोस्लोवाकिया के बीच व्यापार समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर हुए।

1950 मानव अधिकार दिवस घोषित किया गया। इसका मकसद दुनिया भर के लोगों का ध्यान मानवाधिकारों की ओर खींचना, ताकि हर देश और समुदाय में सभी को एक नजर से देखा जाए।

1952 गाले, श्रीलंका में सुजाता का जन्म हुआ। वे जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल हैं।

1957 आध्यात्मिक गुरु हंस महाराज के पुत्र प्रेम पाल सिंह रावत का जन्म हरिद्वार में हुआ। वे विवादास्पद आध्यात्मिक वक्ता, ध्यान के टीचर हैं।

1960 नोबेल पुरस्कार से सम्मानित प्रतिबंधित अफ्रीकी नेशनल कांग्रेस के नेता अल्बर्ट लूथली ने दक्षिण अफ्रीका में रंगभेद समाप्त करने की अपील की।

1960 बाॅलीवुड की जानी-मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल रति अग्निहोत्री का बरेली में जन्म हुआ। इन्होंने दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्मों में भी अभिनय किया।

1961 सोवियत संघ और अल्बानिया के बीच राजनयिक संबंध समाप्त हुए।

1963 अफ्रीकी देश जंजीबार ने ब्रिटेन से स्वतंत्रता हासिल की। 1963 मैसूर (कर्नाटक) के प्रसिद्ध राजनीतिज्ञ, राजनीयक और विद्वान केएम पणीक्कर का निधन हुआ।

1965 मलयालम, तमिल एवं तेलुगू के जाने माने गायक और अभिनेता जयराम सुब्रमण्यम का जन्म पेरुंबावूर में हुआ।

1978 जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड बाॅलीवुड चरित्र अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल अंजना सुखानी का जन्म जयपुर में हुआ।

1982 जानी-मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड भारतीय माॅडल, फिल्म और टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री ओहाना शिवानंद यानी शिल्पा शिवानंद का जन्म दक्षिण अफ्रीका में हुआ।

1985 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड और जानी-मानी दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल कमला जेठमलानी का बंबई में जन्म हुआ।

1988 चूनाभट्टी, बंबई में सुनील धवल कुलकर्णी का जन्म हुआ। वे जाने माने भारतीय क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी हैं।

1989 जाने माने मलयालम और तमिल फिल्म अभिनेता, गायक और संगीतज्ञ सूरज एस कुरूप का जन्म कोट्टायम में हुआ।

1991 कजाखस्तान ने सोवियत संघ से स्वतंत्रता की घोषणा की।

1992 गुजरात में देश की पहली होवरक्राफ्ट सेवा शुरू हुई।

1994 फिलिस्तीनी नेता यासिर अराफात और इजराइली नेता यित्जाक राबिन एवं शिमोन पेरेज संयुक्त रूप से नोबेल शांति पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।

1995 7.2 फुट लंबे जाने-माने बास्केटबाल खिलाड़ी और पहलवान सतनाम सिंह भामरा का पंजाब के बरनाला जनपद के बिल्लो के गांव में जन्म हुआ। यह अमेरिकी बास्केटबाल खिलाड़ी टीम में चयनित होने वाले पहले भारतीय बास्केटबाल खिलाड़ी हैं और डलास मेव्रिक्स टीम के सदस्य हैं। 1995 में इसी दिन स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और प्रसिद्ध राजनेता चैधरी दिगम्बर सिंह का निधन।

1996 जाने माने भारतीय कवि और ब्लॉगर मानस मादरेचा का जन्म हुआ।

1997 जाने माने भारतीय पेशेवर रेसिंग ड्राइवर अर्जुन मैनी का जन्म बंगलौर में हुआ।

1998 भारतीय मूल के विश्व प्रसिद्ध अर्थशास्त्री अमर्त्य सेन को स्टॉकहोम में अर्थशास्त्र के लिए 1998 का नोबेल पुरस्कार प्रदान किया गया। इसी दिन चीन के परमाणु कार्यक्रम के जनक वांगकान धांग का निधन।

2000 पाकिस्तान के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री नवाज शरीफ को दस साल के लिए पाकिस्तान से निर्वासित कर दिया गया। शरीफ उस वक्त अपहरण और भ्रष्टाचार जैसे गंभीर मामलों में जेल में थे।

2001 दादा मुनि और अशोक कुमार के नाम से मशहूर बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेता कुमुदलाल गांगुली का निधन हुआ। जाने माने अभिनेता अनूप कुमार और मशहूर गायक, अभिनेता, संगीतज्ञ, फिल्म निर्माता किशोर कुमार अशोक कुमार के भाई थे।

2002 अमेरिका की दूसरी सबसे बड़ी वायुसेवा कंपनी यूनाइटेड एयरलाइंस दिवालिया घोषित।

2003 कोलंबो में राष्ट्रपति चंद्रिका कुमारतुंग और प्रधानमंत्री रानिल विक्रमसिंधे के बीच वार्ता विफल हुई।

2004 ढाका क्रिकेट टेस्ट में कपिल देव को पीछे छोड़ते हुए अनिल कुंबले टेस्ट क्रिकेट में सर्वाधिक विकेट लेने वाले पहले भारतीय बने। 2004 में अनिल कुंबले ने कपिल देव के टेस्ट में 434 विकेट के रिकॉर्ड को पीछे छोड़ा था। कुंबले ने ढाका में बांग्लादेश के खिलाफ हुए टेस्ट के पहले दिन दो विकेट लेकर ये कारनामा किया। उन्होंने अपने टेस्ट करियर में कुल 619 टेस्ट विकेट लिए। यह आज भी भारतीय रिकॉर्ड है। कुंबले से ज्यादा विकेट सिर्फ श्रीलंका के मुथैया मुरलीधरन (800) और ऑस्ट्रेलिया के शेन वॉर्न (708) ने लिए हैं।

2005 कजाकिस्तान में हुए राष्ट्रपति चुनाव में मौजूदा राष्ट्रपति नूर सुल्तान नजर बायेब पुनः राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित हुए।

2006 चिली के पूर्व कुख्यात तानाशाह जनरल आगस्तो पिनोशे का सैंटियागो में निधन हुआ।

2007 पाकिस्तानी राष्ट्रपति जनरल परवेज मुशर्रफ ने पाकिस्तान के सर्वोच्च न्यायालय में तीन और जजों को नियुक्त किया।

2009 मराठी के लेखक, कवि एवं आलोचक दिलीप चित्रे का निधन आज ही के दिन हुआ था।

2013 मादक पदार्थ मारिजुआना के विकास, बिक्री तथा उपयोग को वैध बनाने वाला उरूगवे पहला देश बना।

2018 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय इतिहासकार, लेखक और चिंतक, दिल्ली स्थित जामिया मिलिया इस्लामिया यूनिवर्सिटी के कुलपति प्रो. मुशीरुल हसन का इंतकाल हुआ। इसी दिन कांग्रेस के वरिष्ठ राजनेता और केरल के मुख्यमंत्री रहे सी. एन. बालकृष्णन का देहावसान हुआ।

1991 Kazakhstan declares independence from the Soviet Union.

1992 The country's first hovercraft service started in Gujarat.

1994 Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and Israeli leaders Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

1995 Satnam Singh Bhamra, 7.2 ft tall well-known basketball player and wrestler, was born in Billo village, Barnala district, Punjab. This American basketball player is the first Indian basketball player to be selected in the team and is a member of the Dallas Mavericks team. 1997 Arjun Maini, noted Indian professional racing driver, was born in Bangalore.

1998 World renowned economist of Indian origin Amartya Sen was awarded the 1998 Nobel Prize for Economics in Stockholm. Wangquan Dhang, the father of China's nuclear program, passed away on this day.

2000 Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was exiled from Pakistan for ten years. Sharif was then in jail in serious cases like kidnapping and corruption.

2001 Bollywood film actor Kumudlal Ganguly, better known as Dada Muni and Ashok Kumar, was passed away. Noted actor Anoop Kumar and famous singer, actor, musician, film producer Kishore Kumar were the brothers of Ashok Kumar.

2002 America's second largest airline United Airlines declared bankruptcy.

2003 Talks between President Chandrika Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in Colombo fail.

Anil Kumble became the first Indian to become the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, surpassing Kapil Dev in the 2004 Dhaka Cricket Test. In 2004, Anil Kumble surpassed Kapil Dev's record of 434 wickets in Tests. Kumble achieved this feat by taking two wickets on the first day of the Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka. He took a total of 619 Test wickets in his Test career. This is still an Indian record. Only Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Australia's Shane Warne (708) have taken more wickets than Kumble.

2018 Renowned Indian historian, writer and thinker, Vice-Chancellor of Delhi-based Jamia Millia Islamia University Prof. Mushirul Hasan passed away. On the same day, senior Congress politician and Chief Minister of Kerala C.N. Balakrishnan passed away.
