1542 एंग्लो-स्कॉटिश युद्ध में इंग्लैंड ने सोल्वे मॉस की लड़ाई में अपनी जीत के साथ लगभग 1200 स्कॉटिश लोगों को बंदी बना लिया।

1642 हाबिल तस्मान की अगुवाई में एक डच अभियान वर्तमान तस्मानिया, ऑस्ट्रेलिया में पहुंचा।

1675 सिखों के नौवें गुरु गुरु तेग बहादुर का निधन चांदनी चौक दिल्ली में हुआ।

1759 इटली में विसूवियस पर्वत शिखर पर ज्वालामुखी विस्फोट हुआ।

1859 चार्ल्स डार्विन की किताब ऑन द ओरिजन ऑफ स्पेशीज बाय मीन्स ऑफ नेचुरल सिलेक्शन 24 नवंबर 1859 को ही प्रकाशित हुई। इस किताब में एक अध्याय था, थ्योरी ऑफ इवोल्यूशन। इसमें बताया गया कि कैसे हम बंदर से इंसान बने। चार्ल्स डार्विन का मानना था कि हम सभी के पूर्वज एक हैं। डार्विन ने सिद्धांत दिया कि हमारे पूर्वज बंदर थे। कुछ बंदर अलग जगह अलग तरह से रहने लगे, इस कारण धीरे-धीरे जरूरतों के अनुसार उनमें बदलाव आने शुरू हो गए। उनमें आए बदलाव उनके आगे की पीढ़ी में दिखने लगे। डार्विन ने समझाया कि ओरंगउटान (बंदरों की एक प्रजाति) का एक बेटा पेड़ पर, तो दूसरा जमीन पर रहने लगा। जमीन पर रहने वाले बेटे ने खुद को जिंदा रखने के लिए नई कलाएं सीखीं। उसने खड़ा होना, दो पैरों पर चलना, दो हाथों का उपयोग करना सीखा। पेट भरने के लिए शिकार करना और खेती करना सीखा। इस तरह ओरंगउटान का एक बेटा बंदर से इंसान बन गया। ये बदलाव एक-दो सालों में नहीं आया बल्कि इसके लिए करोड़ों साल लग गए।

1871 अमेरिका की नेशनल राइफल एसोसिएशन एनवाईसी का गठन हुआ।

1872 कपूरथला राज्य के राजा जगजीत सिंह साहब बहादुर का जन्म कपूरथला में हुआ।

1874 अमेरिकी किसान और कारोबारी जोसेफ फरवेल ग्लिडन ने वाणिज्यिक रूप से सफल कांटेदार तार का आविष्कार कर उसका पेटेंट हासिल किया।

1877 डिप्टी कमिश्नर बनने वाले पहले हिंदुस्तानी कवासाजी जमशेदजी पेटिगरा का जन्म हुआ।

1881 छोटूराम भारत के स्वाधीनता सेनानी तथा राजनेता थे। इन्होंने सफल किसान आंदोलन किया और दलितों, पिछड़ों, अल्पसंख्यकों के अधिकारों के प्रमुख समर्थक थे। इन्हें नाइट की उपाधि मिली। इन्होंने डाॅ. भीमराव अंबेडकर की मुहिमों का समर्थन किया।

1899 प्रसिद्ध राजनीतिज्ञ तथा राजस्थान के प्रथम मुख्यमंत्री हीरा लाल शास्त्री का जन्म हुआ।

1929 भारत के प्रमुख मुस्लिम राजनीतिज्ञों में से एक बिहार, मध्य प्रदेश और उत्तर प्रदेश के राज्यपाल हुए मोहम्मद शफी कुरैशी का जन्म हुआ।

1935 सलीम खान के नाम से मशहूर प्रमुख बाॅलीवुड फिल्मकार, अभिनेता एवं पटकथा लेखक सलीम अब्दुल राशिद खान इंदौर में हुआ।

1936 प्रमुख नेत्री एवं असम की प्रथम एवं एक मात्र महिला मुख्यमंत्री हुईं सैयदा अनवरा तैमूर का जन्म 1936 में हुआ।

1941 विख्यात ब्रिटिश संगीत बैंड द बीटल्स के प्रमुख ड्रमवादक, संगीतकार रैंडोल्फ पीटर बेस्ट का जन्म मद्रास में हुआ।

1943 मनमोहन सिंह सरकार में योजना आयोग के अध्यक्ष रहे एवं नौकरशाह साथ ही अर्थशास्त्री मोंटेक सिंह अहलूवालिया का जन्म रावलपिंडी पाकिस्तान में हुआ।

1944 प्रसिद्ध फिल्म अभिनेता और फिल्म निर्देशक अमोल पालेकर का जन्म हुआ। थिएटर से फिल्मों में आए इस अभिनेता ने बेहतरी अभिनय किया। यह अपनी जनपक्षधरता के लिए जाने जाते हैं।

1950 मध्य प्रदेश के 18वें मुख्यमंत्री, प्रमुख कांग्रेस नेता की पत्नी कांग्रेस नेत्री, लोकसभा सदस्य रहीं और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता अल्का नाथ का अमृतसर में जन्म हुआ।

1955 इंग्लैंड के पूर्व टेस्ट कप्तान और बाद में कमेंटेटर हुए इयान बॉथम का जन्म हुआ।

1960 टाइगर मेमन के नाम से मशहूर गैंगस्टर और आतंकवादी कहे गये इब्राहिम मुश्ताक अब्दुल रज्जाक मेमन का जन्म बंबई में हुआ। यह एक और मशहूर आतंकी याकूब मेमन के भाई हैं।

1961 अंग्रेजी की विश्व चर्चित लेखिका और भारत की प्रमुख मानवाधिकार कार्यकत्री अरुंधति राय का जन्म हुआ।

1963 अमेरिका के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति जॉन फिटजेराल्ड कैनेडी के हत्यारे ली हार्वे ऑस्वाल्ड की हत्या की गई। हमलावर ने डलास थाने में उसे बहुत करीब से गोली मारी.

1966 कांगो की राजधानी किंसासा में पहला टीवी स्टेशन खुला।

1969 अपोलो-12 का चंद्रयान 24 नवंबर दोपहर 3 बज कर 58 मिनट और 24 सेकंड पर प्रशांत महासागर में गिरा।

 

1981 मिस इंडिया 2001 और मिस यूनिवर्स 2001 की चौथी रनर अप जानी-मानी फिल्म अभिनेत्री, माॅडल सेलिना जेटली का जन्म शिमला में हुआ।

1982 जाने माने भारतीय क्रिकेटर अमित मिश्रा का जन्म हुआ।

1985 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल निवेदिता तिवारी का फैजाबाद में जन्म हुआ।

1986 जाने माने भारतीय फुटबाल खिलाड़ी सुब्रत पाल का जन्म सोदेपुर, कलकत्ता में हुआ। इसी दिन तमिलनाडु विधानसभा में पहली बार एक साथ विधायकों को सदन से निष्कासित किया गया।

1988 दल-बदल कानून के तहत पहली बार लोकसभा सांसद लालदूहोमा को अयोग्य करार दिया गया। वो मिजोरम से कांग्रेस के सांसद थे।

1989 जाने माने भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेता एवं माॅडल सुहैल नय्यर का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1990 जाने माने बाॅलवुड फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेता तथा माॅडल प्रिंस नरूला का जन्म चंडीगढ़ में हुआ।

1992 चीन का घरेलू विमान दुर्घटनाग्रस्त, 141 लोगों की मौत।

1998 एमाइल लाहौद ने लेबनान के राष्ट्रपति पद की शपथ ली।

1999 यूनान की राजधानी एथेंस में सम्पन्न विश्व भारोत्तोलन चैंपियनशिप में भारत की कुंजुरानी देवी ने रजत पदक जीता।

2001 नेपाल में माओवादियों से मुठभेड़ में सेना व पुलिस के 38 जवान मारे गये। 2001 में इसी दिन तुर्की की ग्रैंड नेशनल एसेम्बली ने देश के कानून में बदलाव करके महिलाओं को कानूनी तौर पर पुरुषों के बराबर अधिकार दिए।

2003 हिंदी फिल्मों की मशहूर कॉमेडियन उमा देवी खत्री का निधन हुआ।

2006 पाकिस्तान और चीन ने एक मुक्त व्यापार क्षेत्र संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किये तथा अवाक्स बनाने पर भी सहमति हुई।

2007 पाकिस्तान के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री नवाज शरीफ आठ वर्षों के निर्वासन के बाद स्वदेश पहुँचे।

2008 महाराष्ट्र के मालेगाँव बम ब्लास्ट के मामले में आरोपी आरएसएस, भाजपा समर्थित विवादास्पद, उग्र चरमपंथी नेत्री साध्वी प्रज्ञा सिंह ठाकुर ने एटीएस द्वारा अश्लील सीडी दिखाने का आरोप लगाया।

2018 भारतीय महिला मुक्केबाजी की सुपरस्टार एम सी मेरीकॉम ने दसवीं महिला विश्व मुक्केबाजी चैम्पियनशिप में 48 किग्रा वजन वर्ग में स्वर्ण पदक जीता।

1675 Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Guru of the Sikhs, died at Chandni Chowk, Delhi.

1759 A volcanic eruption occurred at Mount Vesuvius in Italy.

1859 Charles Darwin's book On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection was published only on 24 November 1859. There was a chapter in this book, Theory of Evolution. It told how we became humans from monkeys. Charles Darwin believed that we all have a common ancestor. Darwin theorized that our ancestors were monkeys. Some monkeys started living differently in different places, due to which gradually changes started coming in them according to the needs. The changes in him were visible in his next generation. Darwin explained that one son of Orangutan (a species of monkeys) lived on the tree, while the other lived on the ground. The son living on the land learned new arts to keep himself alive. He learned to stand, walk on two legs, use two hands. Learned to hunt and farm to make ends meet. In this way a son of Orangutan became human from monkey. This change did not come in a year or two, but it took crores of years.

1871 The National Rifle Association of America (NYC) is formed.

1872 Raja Jagjit Singh Sahib Bahadur of Kapurthala State was born in Kapurthala.

1874 American farmer and businessman Joseph Farwell Glidden invented and patented the commercially successful barbed wire.

1877 Kawasaji Jamsetji Petigara, first Indian to become Deputy Commissioner, was born.

1881 Chhoturam was a freedom fighter and politician of India. He did a successful farmer's movement and was a major supporter of the rights of Dalits, backward, minorities. He got the title of Knight. He Dr. Supported the campaigns of Bhimrao Ambedkar.

1899 Heera Lal Shastri, famous politician and first Chief Minister of Rajasthan, was born.

1929 Mohammad Shafi Qureshi, one of India's leading Muslim politicians, Governor of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, was born.

1935 Salim Abdul Rashid Khan, prominent Bollywood filmmaker, actor and screenwriter, better known as Salim Khan, was born in Indore.

1936 Syeda Anwara Taimur, a prominent leader and the first and only woman Chief Minister of Assam, was born in 1936.

1941 Composer Randolph Peter Best, principal drummer of the legendary British musical band The Beatles, was born in Madras.

1943 Manmohan Singh was the chairman of the Planning Commission in the government and bureaucrat as well as economist Montek Singh Ahluwalia was born in Rawalpindi Pakistan.

1944 Amol Palekar, noted film actor and film director, was born. This actor who came to films from theater gave a good performance. He is known for his philanthropy.

1950 Congress leader, Lok Sabha member and social worker Alka Nath, wife of prominent Congress leader, 18th Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, was born in Amritsar.

1955 Ian Botham, former England Test captain and later commentator, was born.

1960 Ibrahim Mushtaq Abdul Razzaq Memon, known as Tiger Memon, a gangster and terrorist, was born in Bombay. He is the brother of another famous terrorist Yakub Memon.

1961 Arundhati Roy, world-famous English writer and India's leading human rights activist, was born.

1963 Lee Harvey Oswald, the assassin of former US President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, is assassinated. The assailant shot him at close range at a Dallas police station.

1966 The first TV station opens in Kinsasa, the capital of the Congo.

1969 Apollo-12's Chandrayaan fell in the Pacific Ocean on 24 November at 3.58 minutes and 24 seconds.

1981 Miss India 2001 and 4th runner up of Miss Universe 2001 Noted film actress, model Celina Jaitley was born in Shimla.

1982: Amit Mishra, noted Indian cricketer, was born.

1985 Nivedita Tiwari, well-known beautiful, bold television actress and model, was born in Faizabad.

1986 Subrata Pal, noted Indian football player, was born in Sodepur, Calcutta. On this day, for the first time in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, MLAs were expelled from the house together.

Lalduhoma, a first-time Lok Sabha MP, was disqualified under the 1988 Anti-Defection Act. He was a Congress MP from Mizoram.

1989 Suhail Nayyar, well-known Indian film actor and model, was born in Delhi.

1990 Prince Narula, well-known Bollywood film and television actor and model, was born in Chandigarh.

1998 Emile Lahoud is sworn in as the President of Lebanon.
